Back to this battle, again. Quality vs. Resale. I know that at the end of 5 years I can sell or trade in a warrior and not loose too much between maintenance and mods. As far as a Harley goes, by the time 5 years is up, between insurance, can't really call them mods when the org. part sucked and needed to be replace anyways, and maintenance you've double the cost of the bike ... oh, but if you bought it for 17,000 some how you'll get 17,000+ for it ... yeah, right. Yur still out 10,000+ for all the work you had to do on it. Where's that resale value now?
Funny thing is you can take a Warrior, put 5,000 worth of mods on it. The bike will not only out-perform all Harleys, it will still last forever and a day!!!
Anyways, this rant might be a moot point if my wife doesn't win the car. So, PRAY THAT SHE WIN THE CAR! I'LL BE GETTING MY WARRIOR SOON AFTER!!!

Buy a harley for $17000, and sell it for$17000? If that were true, why buy a used one? You don't get the same amount you bought it for, although the resale is higher, mostly because the retail was so high in the first place.

Example, Two softails sitting in the showroom, one is a 1997 with 20,000 miles on it, the other 2003 with 0 miles. If both were even close to the same price, lets say 17,000 for the 2003, and 16,500 for the 1997, which do you think anyone would buy? The 1997 would never sell!!

I've owned Harleys for over 10 years and my wife liked saying "we have a harley" When I was deciding on a new bike (to replace the Road King)it was between a 03 Fatboy and a Warrior but I wanted a fat Tire so that meant the Fatboy was going to be 18,000 + 5,000 for the fat tire. I still need pipes, carb work and a Bigbore kit add another 2,500 that totalled out a 26,000. So I bought a used 02 Warrior for 8,000. I am happy with my purchase but my wife says I should have bought the Harley (Got to love a woman who didn't care if I spent 26,000 on a bike). As far as New Harleys go I hate to disappoint Harley Bashers but the Twin Cam is also a GREAT engine and will also last forever and a day. the days of bashing Harley reliability are over but they are still overpriced. With guys like Bismark and his 240 Tire kit and awesome chrome work you really can build a Custom for a lot less than a stock Harley will cost.

Who cares what she thinks. As long as either is in your budget get one. Tell her look at all the money you will save buy getting the Warrior. The Harley will put you on welfare!!!

Get ride of the wife! /emoticons/emotion-1.gif
I just saw an American Iron horse go through the Houston auto auction and it brought 13,000 bucks after the owner paid $35,000 for it. Not great resale there!
Harley is in the same boat right now they sold at a high price and people bought used bikes because there were no new ones to be had. Now there is no such thing as wating for a new bike, dealers have them stacked to the roof. So why would it hold resale? So you pay $18,500 for a HD and then in 5 years you might get 12,000 for it or you buy a used Warrior for 7,500 and in 5 years you get 5,000 for it which did you loose less on?

I couldn't giva a rats a$$ about resale, but for some reason my wife does. I have no intentions on selling it. If anything I'll be trading it in for a newer Warrior when the time comes. It all comes down to who's ass is going to be on the seat more. Since she doesn't have a motorcycle license ...
As far as I'm concerned HD's can take their resale value and shove it. Reliability may be on the rise, but so are their prices.
I've done my homework, Warrior wins! Hands Down!!!

The thing 'bout some harley riders that they are actually afraid to ride their bikes “too much” cuz they don't wanna run up the miles to hurt the resale value. What's the point? I want to ride my bike without fearing that I'm riding too much. Dealing w/ peer pressure & spending way too much & then adding the mileage fear is not my ideal of “American freedom”. I could of got the low end wide glide for a few thousand more…but I wanted fat tires, high performance, a lighter bike w/ decent brakes & bragging rights w/ the cubes, the decision to go metric was a no brainier.

BTW, I tell my wife, “quit it before I go over there & remind you what that mouth is for!!!” Peace

You know, its getting ridiculous when wives/girlfriends say "buy a Harley". The Motor Company sure does influence people. Is she afraid her friends might look DOWN on her when they find out you're riding a RICE BURNER?!?!? And re-sale: the market is getting flooded with Harleys, and resale isn't what it used to be. ****, you pay WAY too much for that "IMAGE" to begin with.

I went through the exact same thing with my wife. For some people harley = motorcyle = resale = bragging rights = image. HD did an awesome job turning their image into an icon. After someone else explained to her how awesome the warrior is, and seeing sangathors bike, she finally realized how sweet her ride is. It's pretty cool now, because I show her pictures on this site of things I can do to the bike and she has good input on what she likes.

Most Harleys leave me cold and they are SLOW. I love the look of the Warrior and bought an 02 off eBay for $9000 including transport across country with 2000 miles on it. It already had $700 extras on it. Harleys are so overpriced it's a joke. The used market is coming way down. Buy what you want....there are several on eBay now. Be careful, it looks like a couple of 'characters' are on there. Caveat emptor and ride safe!!

I actually got to ride a Harley again the other day. A buddy of mine moved back into the area and we went for an evening ride and I let him take the Warrior for a while so he could see what it was like. Of course I had ride his Road King (read follow him) what a collosal disapointment. I forgot just how much power the Yamaha had. It was like riding a Lazy Boy with a Briggs and Straton, and this thing has the cams, pipes and air cleaner. Give me the Warrior any day and price doesn't enter into it.
