Quality on my 00 softail was imeccable, don't knock something because of it's distant past. HD makes a good product but the dealers are screwing it up with their market value adjustment B.S. If HDs were actually sold retail I bet half the members on this forum would've bought one instead of the Warrior for their first bike. The TC88B is not the motor they've had cam bearing issues with either, that was the '99-00 TC88.
Bottom line if you buy a bike with the impression it'll hold some value down the road then your missing out on the very purpose of the motorcycle. It'll give you sense of relaxation and therapy wether you're riding it or tooling on it. Without a bike I'd be wearing a "white dinner jacket with long sleeves and buckles".

I think we are missing the point here. It doesn't matter what you ride. What matters is that it is YOUR RIDE. A bike belongs to one person and one person only (discounting the banks contribution). A persons bike is a reflection of who that person is. If you don't buy the bike that is for you then you are not being true to yourself.

Sleepy,

I've yet to meet any Harley rider that, after seeing my bike, has told me, "You should have bought a Harley". About 1/2 of those guys have told me "Yeah...I should look into getting one of those" and I'm sure the rest were thinking it. Do you understand what it took for them to say that! They had to be way more than impressed, and my bike is still mostly stock!

Check out "Marcus Dairy" in "Ride Club". Throw her in the Avalanch and bring her down to meet some of our Warrior family. If you have to, tell her there will be lots of Harleys there.

Spokes said it for me...it's not about posing, it's about the ride, it's about the bike. Common sense tells us that the design of the H-D is such that it'll never ride like the metric cruisers, not to mention the RSW. H-D is all about posing. Get real.

Bruno, if its not about posing, may I ask why you have your 90210 on your handle? Is it not that you want everyone here to know you live in Beverly Hills. well all the power to you. So to some posing may be fulfilling....

If the Warrior was strictly about go and not show, it would be more like the FJR. Better handling, acceleration, comfort, fuel economy, driving range, load carrying ability. Our bikes have many compromises for the sake of style. I have also owned a Harley and it was a very functional bike. Me and my wife could load up the saddle bags and go on a 1000 mile trip without a problem. With the exception of blowing the tranny after several years of hard ridding with a turbo, it never let me down. As far as the Harley crowd goes. There are Arses in every bunch, including Yamaha riders. I can say that the majority of the ones I have encountered were very nice people.

Holy crap I can't believe I'm about to weigh in on this but here I go anyway.
Bitchz love harleys. She wants to tell all her friend "I ride a harley". I say give her a real hands on taste.

Invite all your new drunken harley riding friends over.
Break all of the precious stuff on the mantel.
Puke on the couch.
Piss on the carpet.
Quit showering.
Make her wash the bike in the middle of the night, cuz I said so.
Have her flash her **** on your every command.
Fark her when your really drunk and then wipe yourself off on the curtains.
Then when she complains, just tell her
"this is my familly godamnit and thats how we do it around here"

Just jokin, maybe.

Buflow, I just pissed my pants reading that!
I have recently made the destinction that it's not the bike I hate, it's the attitude that some people have about them. I came to the realization when I was watching a Harley documentary on the travel or discovery channel. There was this woman, a hottie, with well manicure nails, nice head of freashly washed hair. A bandana on her head, clean! New jeans and chaps w/o any blemishes on them. New rider boots, no scuffs. She went on to say I would rather be pushing a vintage 79 Sportster that ever ride a Honda. Now tell me this... where is that whole descriptiong does it give any indication that she's ever turned a wrench or let alone had to push a Harley in her life. Just another case of the RUBS talking the talk.
Haley's have to push the lie about resale value. If they didn't no one would buy them, as over-priced as they are. They have stepped up the quality of ther product, but you are still paying way to much for what you are getting. IMHO.

I went to the Earl Small's Harley in Marietta, GA. They kicked the price of the bike up (Heritage Softail) $4500, with no modifications/chrome. Then they wanted to sell me "GAP" insurance to cover the $4500 that the bank and the insurance company would not cover. Then 21% interest on top of all of that! Bought a Yamaha, been happy since. Ride what you want, want what you ride. [8]

I like Harley's, I just don't like the prices. If Harley would sell for what the Warrior sells for then I would be in a purchase quandry. But at the current, inflated price, you don't get enough bike. I can get a Warrior with a news set of pipes for 15,000. Still a few grand LESS than the MSRP of a Fatboy. Throw on a PCIII, BAK, a dyno run and a custom map, and you're still under the cost.
Personally, I'm not looking to make a rocket out of any bike I get. If I was looking for pure perf. I would get the R1. I want the best of both worlds and the Warrior does the best balancing act I've ever seen!
I told my wife way back that i wanted to get the R1, she said she'd never ride it. I said if it has to be a cruzier, fine, and I have the perfect one in mind. THen it was a dead issue for a few months. Then I started talking abou tit again and she then got caught up in the whole resale of a Harley crap and now it 'has to be a Harley'. I'm going to keep on telling her I'm not buying a bike because of resale and or popularity. I have put a lot of time and reading into the Warrior. I know it is a better buy than all the Harley's out there. I've always said, you get what you pay for. If you pay for a name, that's all you get. If you pay for a bike... I have all the respect for true riders, whatever they ride. I have no respect for the ones who buy it because it's all the rave. The people that wouldn't know a CC if it jumped up and bit them in the a$$.
Well, I'm preaching to the choir here. It's my wife who needs convincing. I'm not going to be a d*ck to her about it, she'd gotten enough of that treatment from her loser father. I jst need to be tactful. If I just came home with one she'd kick me in the nutz so hard I'd be fiching them out of my cerebelum. Plus I wouldn't be able to ride until the swelling went down... Just thinking about it makes me cringe.

Matt where in Ma. are you from. It's Harley haven up there in the north east? You got to break her away from the HD crap. After all when your bike is siting all winter long and your making payments while not being able to even ride it, how she gonna feel dumping another 200.00+/ month into a bike payment when the oil man is pulling up to the house.

I live in central Mass.
Yup, it seemed to be HOG explosion this summer. Everybody and their accountant has one!
Like I said before, I'm not going to be a d*ck about it to her. It just comes down to a compromise. Maybe if I tell her a$$ will look better on a Warrior than on a Harley, she'll change her mind.
GUYS: Tell your wives to send testimonials of how much better their a$$es look on the Warrior.
Ladies of the Warrior: Send in your testimonials of how much better your ass looks sitting on a Warrior.
Send them to mathew_herholz@hotmail.com
I don't know if pictures will help. It will probably just make her angry that I have women sending me pictures of their a$$es on Warriors...

I'll do better than that, I'll have my fiancee write with some input. Like I said before, she was pretty much hooked on Harleys until some time in the saddle of the warrior. She's seen the looks the bike gets, the way people notice it. She's been on Harleys and knows the difference on performance, handling, reliability. Then again, she's thinking I should have a sport bike too. Guess I'm not going to be living with the issue you do (lucky me)

Last year, when me and Rich were looking at the 2002 R1 that SKY Cycle had leftover, my wife (fiancee at the time) looked over and saw the Warrior and said, I like that, why don't you get that one instead. Now a month before that, when I had a pic of the warrior she said she didn't like it because the exhaust looked ugly on it. Well, upclose and in person (and looking at it from the other side) she liked to looks of it. Since then I have said, putiing on a new set of pipes is easy and it will still cost FAR less than a stock Harley.
Warrior = 13,000 - 15,000
Pipes = 300.00 - 400.00
For the sake of consuming space we'll take it from somewhere in the middle.
Warrior + pipes = 14,200
Warrior - Harley = 9700.00 I have not spend.
So. Let's see what else I can get for the Warrior for almost 10k... hmmmmm ...
PCIII, BAK, dyno and custom map... Hmmm, still got about 9000.00... Chrome the rims... not sure about the cost of that, but I know I think it's gotta be under 500.00, I'll say 300.00, but correct me if I'm wrong. 8500.00 left. ooops, can't forget the air scoop... 8300.00 left. Here, Dear, have this 2 carrot diamond, 4000.00 left.

Like I said, I don't want to build a rocket out of the Warrior, it already destroys Harley's. I just want to be able to see how fast they all disapper in my mirror.

What's resale anyways if you can't find anyone to buy it!!!

Tell my buddie about resale. He has a Sporty for sale for 7 months. Has had one person look at it. The market is flooded with them. Everybody is buying one thinking they can ride it for a year and get there money back out of it. That's just not the case.

Your also missing the point noone is paying $14000 to $15000 for a Warrior. Try $11000- $9000 for new. $7000 to $12000 for use with lots of mods. When I got mine I couldn't find a used so I bought new. Now you can find them used for good prices because they have been out for awhile.

I was a Fatboy guy but I realized that it wasn't worth the price and I would never be truly happy with it. Plus I'd be like every other turd and trying to sell my bike a year later because I realized it wasn't that speacial. Plus I like to have something everybody else doesn't have.

I'm sure you'll find a nice Aniversary for sale this winter. Since everyboby bought one. The Warrior is going to have a better resale because the market is not going to be flooded.

I've owned Harleys for over 10 years and my wife liked saying "we have a harley" When I was deciding on a new bike (to replace the Road King)it was between a 03 Fatboy and a Warrior but I wanted a fat Tire so that meant the Fatboy was going to be 18,000 + 5,000 for the fat tire. I still need pipes, carb work and a Bigbore kit add another 2,500 that totalled out a 26,000. So I bought a used 02 Warrior for 8,000. I am happy with my purchase but my wife says I should have bought the Harley (Got to love a woman who didn't care if I spent 26,000 on a bike). As far as New Harleys go I hate to disappoint Harley Bashers but the Twin Cam is also a GREAT engine and will also last forever and a day. the days of bashing Harley reliability are over but they are still overpriced. With guys like Bismark and his 240 Tire kit and awesome chrome work you really can build a Custom for a lot less than a stock Harley will cost.

Back to this battle, again. Quality vs. Resale. I know that at the end of 5 years I can sell or trade in a warrior and not loose too much between maintenance and mods. As far as a Harley goes, by the time 5 years is up, between insurance, can't really call them mods when the org. part sucked and needed to be replace anyways, and maintenance you've double the cost of the bike ... oh, but if you bought it for 17,000 some how you'll get 17,000+ for it ... yeah, right. Yur still out 10,000+ for all the work you had to do on it. Where's that resale value now?
Funny thing is you can take a Warrior, put 5,000 worth of mods on it. The bike will not only out-perform all Harleys, it will still last forever and a day!!!
Anyways, this rant might be a moot point if my wife doesn't win the car. So, PRAY THAT SHE WIN THE CAR! I'LL BE GETTING MY WARRIOR SOON AFTER!!!
