Iridiums removed backfire!!

Went to the service shop today to figure out what's that jerking and coughing at low revs, and I finally got that tank off completely. You guys didn't tell me there's a valve on the hose under the seat so the gas won't leak if you remove the tank. The second hose under the left chromed cover leaked a few drops. Talking about removing airbox and installing K&N's with the tank held by a friend on the left side. . DOH (gas hoses still attached). So I found out the K&N's are incredibly dirty (mostly the one on the rear cylinder). That's why at low revs and speed, no real air pressure, the engine couldn't breathe. Not to mention that I experienced some massive backfire on the way to the service shop. So I just have to clean the filters to get rid of the stumbling. Also installed the Iridiums. Guess what?! Even if the K&N's are still clogged ,backfire diminished almost completely. I didn't change, mod, clean anything else and the pipe's loud backfire dissapeared. So the Iridiums did that!! [/emoticons/emotion-2.gif] Strangely enough, the regular (new) NGK's that I installed last month, proved not to be powerful enough to burn the gas completely in the cylinders. Iridiums are the ones!! With very low air supply. . Will also clean the filters to get back the low rev smoothness and torque.

No, it's just that now, with the clean air filters, you're getting enough air in there to allow more complete combustion.

I realize the ongoing debate about iridium plugs but if you re-read his post he said he put these plugs in before doing anything else. How do you explain that? For the record, I'm not necessarily pro-iridium - never tried them.

I know. I was just messing with him. I am Pro iridium. I have them in my bike.

I'm still afraid "they" may come back for them...

LOOOL, RatPhlem. .Just in case they show up. . tell them you want to trade your Iridiums for some blue prints and specs for their UFO's and gold making technologies. . . then you can built your own secret society and get a platinum card to the VIP section of frequent visitors to Area 51, and some day you can have the esoteric logo of your society, , printed on dollar bills. JP, the NGK's (the DPRS ones) I replaced today where only one month old (less than 1000 miles).. . that's the oddity!! Why so much detonation with normal, basically new plugs, and virtually nil bang with Iridums, with the same gagged filters?! Clogged filters and Iridiums anihilated backfire!! I wonder what cleaned filters will do, if very dirty ones did that. . OOh, I mentioned in the other topic, that my iddle was erratic, going like crazy from 700 to 1200 RPM and back, on the tacho. . .After the plug replacement, idle stayed put at 1000 RPM, no matter what. . The tacho digital bars where like painted up to the 1000 RPM mark. I looked from very close and the bar marking the 1000 RPM didn't flash at all. . Strange. No ups no downs, stayed there like electric tape glued to the tacho.

Whoa dude I used to have a platinum card to the VIP section of a strip club off Ponce in Atlanta, this chick named "Iridium" (or was it "Irina"??) used to let me print all sorts of "esoteric stuff" as long as I did it on a dollar bill.[/emoticons/emotion-4.gif] I think the sign said "Welcome to Area 51"...? Or was it "No One Under 21"...[?] Ah sh*t, I dunno, too many dead brain cells ago....

AK, my idle RPM's are doing what your did. It idles anywhere from 800-1300 and when sitting a at a light, I can hear it skipping. Definitely not what you call smooth. I still have my original plugs at over 12,000 miles and I wasn't mapped for about 11,000 of those miles. Last week I cleaned out my K&N's with their recharge kit and I ordered the denso Iridiums. I'm glad to here they solved your problem. Do you feel a performance change also?

what does everyone have against the iridiums? Do they do bad things to the bike?

Nothing against them. Just don't trust the claims members are making regarding these plugs and want people to be informed shoppers.
Read the thousand or so topics regarding these things...
I'm getting a headache trying to save you guys a bunch of money.[xx(]
