Issues with turn signal

246 Views 15 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  SundayRider
I have a 06 Yamaha RS Warrior 1700, and was out riding yesterday and everything was working fine, then I went to turn my bike on accessory mode and usually my running lights always come on, well my front left one didn't turn on until I started the bike. But my right one remained on the entire time. I inspected the bulb and it didn't look bad. Curious to what it could be, any help is much appreciated. Turn signals all work fine.

Also what LED light bulb fits the runninglight /turn signals? I tried 1157a but it didn't fit, since factory has 3 prongs and 1157 has 2.
While running, try wiggling the wires going into the headlight, from the signal, by the lower tripple tree. Watch to see if any power goes to light. If that does not work, try using the search function in the technical forum, and see what comes up for this. You may have to remove the headlight and see what wires are involved. Probably an easy fix.
I'll give that a shot and see what happens, I did install a new headlight a few weeks ago, so not sure if it maybe snagged something also.
The later bikes use a different front and rear run-signal bulbs. Look in the Documentation forum's TABLE OF CONTENTS for a help file with similar title.

Do you know if the bulbs in your 2006 are already led?
They are not. They are basic amber with 3 prongs at the base
Ok so the bulb numbers are on the bulbs, and also in the help file in Documentation as mentioned earlier. That will give you the info needed for each bulb to go LED.

You ALSO must must must become aware of click-of-death (cod) which happens as a side effect of removing the FRONT RUNNING INCANDESCENT LIGHT BULB FILAMENT (SHARES BULB WITH SIGNAL) and also removing the two LICENSE PLATE INCANDESCENT BULBS.

It sounds difficult but once you understand that signal-fast-flash is a side effect of removing the incandescent front turn signal filament . . .

. . . so fast-flash has nothing to do with and is separate from COD . . . then you'll be fine.

FWIW ... the Warrior Main switch/steering lock has 3-positions: Lock, Off & On :)
There are probably 3 logical scenarios to your left running light issue:
  1. The running light filament has failed.
  2. The running light brass contact in the socket has some dirt or corrosion.
  3. The Blue running light Snap Connector has become compromised when installing the new headlight.

I recently had a similar issue with my front right turn signal. Sometimes it would work somtimes not. Turns out the wire was pinched near the lower triple tree and was compromised. So also check for that.

I will check it this week when I get a chance and updates to come.
I've had issues with my running lights in the past as well. It's always been the bullet connectors in the headlight bucket being loose. I just crimp them down a little tighter then reinsert the male end and then they're good again. For reference, this is no. 3 from Alan's post above.

Sometimes my left front refuses to flash... I just reach down and give it a slap/tap to remind it who's boss and it starts flashing fine til the next time it decides to try and go on strike.

Now I'm laughing cause you're laughing!
I probably really should open it up and check it out.... I'll add it to the "to do" list.. maybe toward the bottom... but on the list.
Fixed the issue, the wiring was loose by the connectors. Only way I figured it out is I toyed with the connectors and saw the light flicker, so I clamped them a little better and hopefully its all it needed
