First, sorry for the long post. I have a code 37, LCV that came up last week. I did a search & found that the idle speed may be too low. It's an '02, I bought it brand new in April this year, first problem with it. I would take it back to dealer if I didn't put on the BAK which relocated the LCV. I did that back in June & over 4000 miles ago, but I'm sure they'd say "No Warranty" since it has been relocated. I followed the service manual & it's making the noises it's supposed to, so to me, that means it's probably working. On my search, someone said something about Churchkey capping the LCV 'cause it's only supposed to work when the engine has not reached operating temp, after warmed, it has no effect. Is this true? Can I cap it without getting the engine light? I searched for capping the LCV, if I overlooked it please forgive me, but I didn't see anything about how to do it. If someone has done this, can you please tell me what the procedure is? I know one thing, when I go back together with it, I'm gonna trash the Barons BAK & go with Churchkeys or PRs BAK, haven't decided which one yet. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about capping off the LCV but if you want to get the code 37 light to go off just adjust your idle. Take the seat off and use the twist knob under the seat where the rear of the gas tank bolts on. Set your idle around 900-950 (warm idle speed) Best to use the tach off the PCIII with your laptop. Hard to be accurate with the bike tach. Churchkey would probably be one of the best sources of info regarding the capoff.

I've had my LCV capped off for about six months now with no problem whatsoever. I've dropped my idle down to about 500 rpm and it takes almost no time to warm up in the mornings. I usually hold the throttle slightly open for about 20 seconds and then it idles just fine. I didn't like the sound the LCV made when I started the bike up now that I had no airbox to muffle the sound. I knew what it was doing but prefer it like this. I just put a rubber cap over the dohicky and it's worked fine.

Another option is to add an air restrictor into the large center line going into the LCV. This allows a bit of extra air and enrichment when cold but the idle speed when cold is about the same as when warm. It eliminates that annoying high idle when the bike is first started, hot or cold, and no need to feather the throttle when cold.
