Virginal post on this site, so be gentle. Fell in love with the Warrior on a dealer lot at first site, helping a buddy buy his first bike, a little V-Star 650. Been hankering for some compromise between the comfort and feel of a cruiser and the rippin' nature of the sportbikes I've been riding. So far I'm convinced the RSW is it.

Found one locally, a 2002 titanium, mostly stock, w/ ~12k miles. Tranny recall work done a year or two ago. Seller asking $7500. Only two concerns about the bike:

1) It has been stored outside and as such many of the visible exterior bolts have noticeable rust on them. Nothing else seems to have suffered this same fate.
2) It's been tipped over once, leaving scratches on the (stock) can and whatever that chrome cover thing is on the right side of the bike up near the front cylinder.

I guess my questions for you guys and gals are what do you think of the above deal generally and should I be concerned with the minor rust?

Also what is that chrome thing and how much to replace it?

G'day and welcome to the 4um,
That chrome thing up between the cylinders is your air box. The first thing you should do is get a BAK(Big Air Kit) from Churchkey and then you can loose that piece of , well nevermind, you can just loose it. the Stealer will rob you blind for another one anyway, and they run better with the BAK.
Then you could replace the can on the side and put a decent exhaust on it and increase the power.
The bolts are easy to replace, you'll find people on Ebay selling SS kits for them all the time for about $29.99 per kit.
As for the price I'm not sure if it is good or not as I'm DownUnder and that would be a steal in Aussie dollars.
I'm sure that some one will chime in soon and let you know. Of course you could just check the members For Sale in the classifieds here.

i have a coworker that is selling an 04 with about 3K miles on it.... silver/flames, pipes, side mounted tag and if youd like to spend a little more, his bike is well worth it.

lmao...$7500 for that...stock and rust and scratches and dings? Sorry..as I said it is worth what u r willing to pay....I've seen em go for $4600 in better shape than that....where is locally at? Maybe we can find u one a little nicer for around the same bucks...or 1 as good as that for less........

Welcome. There are plenty of Warriors that have been garage kept, with less miles, for less. Look around on the classified on this site and on e-bay, it will at least give you an idea on what's out there and how much these baby's are worth.

My head knows you guys are right, but my heart really wants that Warrior now and knows that this one is right around the corner from my house. "Locally" for me is about 20 miles west of DC in Reston, Va. I haven't seen any 2002's listed w/in 200 miles (I scour ebay, craigslist, cycletrader daily) for less than $7k, though most have had about half the miles that this one does and claim to be garage kept.

Ah well as I said, I think you guys are right, so I guess I have to pass on this one. **** it! My old bike (R6) was recently stolen and I'm jonesin' to get back on two wheels.

i would keep looking myself i bought a red 02 with 7k for $7500. with alot of mods and accessories. so dont be to antsy you should be able to get alot more for the same money! kept outside? isnt there punishment for that?

im in reston, and I can tell you im almost positive you will not find one around here for 4600 just to give you a reference i got my 02 in jan of this year with no rust, no scratches, drag bars and V&H bigshots on it for 7k. the guy was asking 8k. Was it the best deal in the world? no, but i feel like it was a good deal..at least for me, i couldnt be happier with the bike. you can always offer him much lower and see if he takes it

But it's basically like these guys said, I'll eventually find one for the same price in better condition; or I'll find one in similar condition for cheaper. Only a matter of time.

I see them around here for $8000 on average. I had mine listed for less, and would have negotiated, but I think I'm gonna keep mine for now.

For $2000 more you can have my '06, I bet we could find some way to get it to you, and you'd have a garage kept, meticulously cared for bike with many mods and all the original parts if you like. See the classifieds.

I found mine in ashburn VA. (about 10 miles past reston)and i actualy found it on craigslist. I was willing to travel 100 miles and willing to pay up to $7500 it took me about 3 months to find the one i have.

$7500 for an outside kept '02 with 12,000 is a bit much. I found my garage kept '02 with 3031 miles for $7000. The deals are out there, just be patient.

If you really want that one that's right around the corner, don't pay more than $6000.

yea offer him 5500, I wouldnot pay over 6k and keep on looking, theres a lot of nicer bikes out there @ 7.5 to 9.5 K

My 03 has rust on a handful of the bolt heads simply from being ridden through the rain many times in 3 years....it is a fact of life and certain things need replacing eventually...don't let that fact alone stop you from buying the bike....

it's nearly september... no more need to hurry... you'll have the whole winter to shop. And the wait will be worth it.
the person who is selling that bike is depending upon buyer ignorance... and is very likely NOT a member of this community...
we are all about research.

A little rust is normal if you actually ride a bike. After all, they weren't built to sit in garages. HA HA I'm selling my warrior. It's an 04 custom. Best offer WILL take it!
