You are checking it when the engine is warm with the bike upright (not on the sidestand) I presume?

 

Do you know how full it was when you first got the bike and how long have you had it? It may have been low to start. Also, some engines tend to use more oil while in early miles. Some slight oil blowoff is ok. I'd be more concerned if you have puddles of oil under the bike.

 

I would just do an oil change and then keep an eye on it. That way you have a baseline to go off of.

 

do a compression check. you shouldnt be useing oil. oil vapor does come out the breather tube. look in your airbox under the tank. if theres alot of oil you have ring trouble

 

Yeah, how many miles do you have on bike? What's the level of oil after it's warmed up? When was the last oil change? When's the last time you checked the oil level? And did you check it while standing straight up and not on stand.

 

Ok. Well sensing something more had to be involved in the oil level. I went back and let it warm up again and then checked it upright (this time...... whoooooops) I was ready to ride so my hastiness caused this forum topic. I checked it again and the dipstick showed 3/4 of the good area was covered. The bike has less than 4000 miles on it so the only oil changed ive had was the break-in oil change. Thanks for all the help guyz...

ROFLMFAO!!! The only thing that could make me laugh harder is if you left the motor running when checking it the second time. ahh, needed a good laugh. Sounds like everything is where it should be, and it sounds like time for the next oil change. Ohh and don't forget to loosen the corect bolt on the oil tank, the 17mm one btwn shock and frame, not the one pointed to in the owners manual. LOL.

Yea, on my 1st oil change I thought I was low. I let it idle about 10 minutes but the level didn't come up much. Then I took the bike for a 10 minutes ride I saw a big change.

LOL, just trying to prevent a future post claiming that I removed the bolt that the owners manual said to and nothing came out, what's up? lmao

 

Speaking of oil levels, I have a question. When I changed my oil (first service), the level would not go down in the filler hole and I had to start the engine briefly 6 or 7 times to get the level to go down so that I could keep topping up till full. It was really frustrating and time consuming. Is that right???

 

Bulldog, there are two bolts you need to pull when draining the oil, you only pulled one. Do a search on oil change or something similar you will find the info.

 

Thanks for the info........not quite sure where to search but I'll take a look underneath the bike and work it out.

 

One bolt is behind the kickstand by the oil filter and the other is on the other side back below the oil tank, it comes down at an angle. They are both 17mm

Mine always used a little oil every 500 miles or so until I switched to a synthetic blend.
