For those members with the lower cowl....does it create any service difficulties.... can the filter be changed without removing it? I am going to install one and am debating about screening the front. [?]

If you screen the front you will have to remove either the entire lower cowl or the screen to change the oil filter. Without a screen the filter can be changed without removing the cowl.
instead of useing the bracketing that comes with the cowel i secure the bottom with plastic ty-wraps. it makes for easy removal & doesnt scratch the frame
The lower cowl isn't that bad to take on and off. With the oil cooler adapter plate on I can't get my filter off unless I take the cowl off. It takes a extra 5 minutes.
This is a different topic, but I thought you could answer it quite well.
Simply, is there any benefit to the performance of the bike, cornering, handeling, steering with the addition of the cowl. Does it just look good, or is there a real function?
Iron horse - the only function I could see it perform is as a shield for the oil filter. I have seen folkes on road stars who have had their filter pierced by shards of road debris. As for performance - it neither hinders or helps but does look cool IMO.
i remember someone having theres break off while riding has anyone elses done that i like it and would like to get one one day so any help would be cool !
Ironhorse, Yager is on the money the cowl protects the oil filter. I also know someone that had an oil filter damaged. It doesn't hurt to protect it and it looks cool too.
What Yager says. Definately no performance boost but looks good IMO.
