Mixed feelings about first experience

I finally got my '04 Warrior today. First, I'll say that I love it. Moving up from a VStar 650 was an inimidating jump but I'm so excited about the increase in acceleration and handling.
However, let's get to the downside of my experience. First, I called the salesman and told him I'd be there in an hour and a half so he would have time to prep the bike. Well I got there when I said I would and after an hour of paperwork I still had to wait another hour til my bike was ready. This sucked because storms were moving in and I didn't really have much time to talk to the mechanic once it was ready and no time to look the bike over. I still couldn't believe that I was actually seconds away from riding this beast. So, I got caught in the rain on the way home and the Warrior was filthy. No big deal, I always clean my bike after riding. So, when cleaning it I noticed a nice chip in the gas tank. Also, my headlight does not work. It was fine when I left and functioning when I got home. I plan to call the dealership tomorrow and hopefully get these two problems fixed. I work next to an auto painter and want him to fix the chip and hope the dealer will pay for it. As for the headlight I guess it'll be covered under the warranty. Has anyone had a first experience like this or any problems like these?

I bought my bike on Feb 2 of this year. Same exact thing happened to me, except instead of rain, I got caught in snow. Going from a 1981 Kawasaki 650 to the Warrior was scary enough, let alone riding 20 miles in 30 degree snowy weather! I was not about to leave my bike at the store another night. All was well, and I have absolutly no regrets.

Same here. I picked mine up on February 11th and rode all the way home in the rain.
I just finished my first week working for Yamaha and am learning what it takes to get a bike out the door. Once the paperwork is finalized they have to do a PDI (Pre *something* inspection). But if the mechanics are swamped they won't get to it until they have time. I bet that's what you were waiting on. As far as stuff not working and the damage on the tank. Most dealers offer an in-house warranty for about 30 days. They should have no problem fixing the light but I'll bet they try and pull some "that wasn't like that when we gave it to you" crap.

Good advise?

I am sure that he turned on his engine durring the ride home... I am dure that if you raise enough ****, they will fix the tank. Tell them that you want to return the bike. Most states have lemopn laws that allow you to do this with in the first couple of weeks. You can use this as leverage to make them fix it!

Good luck and don't take no $hit! It's your money...

Although it is hindsight now, this is a great lesson for all of us. No matter how excited you are to ride your new bike home...take the time to do a thorough inspection of it and get checked out for all the control operations. This not only gives you a chance to see where everything is but it also gives you a chance to see if all is working well. I would also think that a dealer that releases a new bike to a customer without providing these services is lacking in both customer care and providing the new owner with the essentials for safe vehicle operation. Good luck!

It rained on me when I picked up mine. I live in San Diego and the weather had been great, then out of the blue the skies opened up. I had 4 different people warn me about the new tires in the rain and started to think they would jinx me. Made it home without incident.

Sorry to hear about the tank. Hoppe they step up for you.

You guys are right...the engine must be running for the light to come on. Kinda weird. Luckily the guy that works in the building next to my business's does paint on cars and bikes and he said he'll fix my chip in the tank. I just got back from riding about 150 miles. The warrior rocks. I still can't get over the acceleration. I love when a car passes me on a 4 lane highway and then 2 seconds later I just blow them away. I did come up to a Busa though and that bike is simply incredible.
