I bought Shorty Slashers and a PC3. LOst my torque and make too much noise! There are torque cones, power rings, and baffles. Any suggestions on the best combo('s)?

Well, Guy!
With the Slasher's you lost all you're back pressure and back pressure = torque. I would go with the torque cones, makes sense, hence the name. Quite honestly, you will never regain the 2-1 performance you had when you decide to go 2-2. You gain top end speed with a 2-2 system, but lose the low end.
Okay. I loved that torque but hate the stock pipe...too quiet. So....will I get the same torque with the pro pipe or cobra slip on? Or will the big shots with the torque chamber be the thing to wait for?
GUY-LET ME TELL YOU A STORY ABOUT A HARLEY DAVIDSON THAT I BOUGHT SEVERAL YEARS AGO. THE FELLA I BOUGHT IT FOR HAD PUT ON VANCE AND HINES STRIGHT SHOTS (2 INTO 2) WITH NO BAFFELS. IT SOUNDED AWSOME, TURNED LOTS OF HEADS, AND RAN LIKE CRAP.THE THING WAS A REAL DOG.I ORDERED A SET OF BAFFELS BECAUSE I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA AND DIDN'T WANT THE PEOPLE THERE TO HATE ME. AFTER INSTALLING THEM I GOT A PLEASENT SURPRISE. I HAD TORQUE AND IT FELT LIKE A DIFFERENT BIKE.I LEARNED THAT DAY HOW IMPORTANT BACKPRESSUE IS ON A STREET BIKE. NOW I SMILE WHEN I SEE A HARLEY WITH STRIGHT PIPES ON.
You will never have the torque you did with the stock pipes because it has (i think) 3 baffles or something like that but you will notice a inprovment in HP so its a give and take. The bike used to start to slack off around 3k rmp but now i dont notice any lack of power all the way up to about 45k to redline. True it cant jurk me out of my boots like it used to on take off so it comes down to what you want HP or Torque. I've figured out that this bike has more then enough power and touque for me so i'm ok with a little less torque... But its up to what you like.
You guys should have seen the night train project on speed vision they tested several sets of exaust, hp figures varied as much 20 tourque about the same.
The mid length open drags consistantly produced the highest hp & torque
Torque peak came in higher in the rev range with open pipes but the peak numbers was considerably higher.
It is quite possible that the torque loss some of you are having could be caused by improper fuel mixture.
For example I am running propipe with raceing baffel with the billett
end cap,BAK,AIS flanges,I tried Darkstars map adjusted just as he described the bike would hardley run.I then put back the map from dynajet for propipe w/open baffel bumped low 2% mid 6% high 10% runs like a scalded dog.
To my suprise the bike has not had a single back fire in 50 miles of stop & go riding.
In a low compression engine with EPA legal restricted aspiration you need the back pressure so that power isn't sucked out the back and wasted as noise. Just remember "Speed costs, how fast can you afford to go?" Extreme Aspiration (BAK), high compression, advanced ignition, and open pipes will give you rocking horsepower and torque both! Of course your gas mileage will be in the range of my pickup truck and you will notice a very light front end not to mention what you'll run into with the noise police.
The key is what is right for you and your riding and your wallet.
I'm getting ready to put my bike up for the winter and perform a few mod's. Last night I removed the stock muffler and went for a ride. I swear it had more power but maybe I was just hypnotized by that awesome sound. What do you think?
Hey Guy - I have Bub chambermaid staggered pipes. I have two sets of cones and two sets of baffles. The smaller diameter cones sounded the best and gave good torque. The baffles with the least resistance gave a little better torque and don't sound as good, yet they are quiter so that is what I'm running. The woman across the street had a cow everytime I took off up the street with the torque cones in. Some night I'm going to go up her lawn.
Anyway, it's a compromise of many factors. Find what you like, or change back and forth. Anyway you ride is better than the alternative.
Thanks. FYI - My neibors are in their mid 70's, the wife is great and the old man is grumpy. The wife told me that the bike sounds better with the muffler off. She said she love's it when I take off and make all that noise!
Ps - I'm holding out for the Rinehart pipes.
