Needle Bearings problem

Yo dudes - I got a problem, stripped the rear suspension down today in order to grease the bearings and found one set had completely collapsed - it fell apart, so I rang the local yam dealer, and they wasn't that helpful, usual stuff about no such bike, is it an 03? They weren't made after 03 (mines an 05) then quoted ÂŁ90.00 for a set, don't know when they will arrive, etc, so had a look on the net and found a web page bikebearings.co.uk - found the right size, only ÂŁ8.00 or so, sorted, but they don't have a dust seal like the yam ones - what you reckon? Can anyone give any info on this? Does this bearing look sealed enuf, or will it need additional dust seal? Cos if so, I don't know where to get it, my yam dealer doesn't seem to be all that interested other than taking the whole job over, which could no doubt cost a packet and take forever. I'm thinking of just getting this cheap one pushed in, and keep an eye on it.

My freakin bike is getting killed by British winter salt - I recently re-painted, had to cut the rear fender bolts off the back, ( reccomend stick wth original bl=olts there if possible, I put stainless ones in, and they reacted with the ally in the sub-frame bit, absolutley solid ganked in there - blowtorch territory - argh, can't believe I'm doing these things to by bike!) also the exhaust jubilee clip thing was facked today, so had to take a hacksaw blade to it.

Bike has done nearly 30K now, not the first Yam I had with this problem at 30-40K, (miles) I remember some guy on a honda message board was on about putting greae nipples in the old V4 hondas, thats actually a **** good idea!

This is my nackered part, you can see the rusty wear on that spindle, I hope to get a new one done local on a lathe

Here is the bearing for ÂŁ8.00 - does you reckon it be ok with no dust seal? Anyone know?

Meanwhile, I just put it all back together and bunged a load of grease in till I can sort it proper - wouldn't recommend going on a motorway or owt tho, had a yam rear end suspension seize once before, bike turned into a bukaroo!

Google a company called Applied Industrial Technologies. It's in the states, but theres no reason they couldn't ship overseas.
I can see the bearing numbers on the edge in your pictures. Tell the sales/customer service person the number and that you want the ones with seals. They will cross it for you. Bearings are what they do, and though there are many sizes and types of bearings, they are usually standard bearings. No one designs a mass produced vehicle that uses custom bearings.
I'm willing to bet that they can hook you up. I've always found them very helpful getting me the right bearings for industrial machinery.
Let us know how you make out.

Fearless, city seals and bearings ltd 23-25 stevenson road sheffield 0114 2435343 have always sorted me out. Just take old bearing or bearing numbers in and they can usually cross refrence and supply correct bearings alot cheaper than the dealer. Hope this helps dude ......Frec......U.K...

Thanks Riderxx, thats cool, I will bear them in mind if needs be - I went to a local guy who runs a garage, (he got a sportster) but the bearings he come up with were wrong inner diameter, so I said I'd leave it, even tho he offered to lathe up a new spacer etc, I said I'd see what I could find other ways first - cheers!
