Nice night to ride

JShram and I took a ride up the Matanuska River valley tonight. The road is in poor condition, but lots of twisties, and ups n downs. I was going to ride earlier today but just couldn't force myself to put on the leathers in this heat. The past two weeks have been unreal up here, temps in the 80s. ****, it was somewhere between 80 and 85 when we took off at 9:00 tonight. That might not seem too high to you guys down south but that's way too hot for up here. For those who know the area, we went up the Glenn Hwy as far as the Puritan Creek turn out. That's where you first get a view of the Matanuska Glacier. Lots of stops along the way, gas, pictures, ice cream!! We got to the turn out around 11:00 or so. We decided to head back so we wouldn't have to ride in the twilight. Nice thing about Alaska, the day is LONG. It's almost 2:30 am here now. I could go outside and read a book with no artificial light needed. Our riding season may not be long but the riding days sure are! There's no particular reason for this post. I just can't sleep and I'm sitting here wishing we had gone farther up the road. It was one of the best rides I've ever been on even if it wasn't very long, bout 100 miles round trip. The temp was down around 60 when we got back, 15 min after midnight. Very little traffic, great scenery, nice twisties and 2 Warriors just havin a ball. Yep, it was a nice night to ride. Here's a pic of the 2 bikes next to the Matanuska river. It was taken somewhere between 10:00 and 10:15 pm.

We have you beat by a bit. Stockholm (been there, loved it!) is just over 59N, Wasilla, where JSHram and I live, is at 6135N. We get maybe one more hour of direct sunlight than you. At these latitudes it doesn't really matter. Makes for some nice riding doesn't it?!

Ditto on the ride with Oldman! Best ride of the year. The road was not crowded and JC and I ride very compatibly. I think were it not for Oldman being tempered by a few years more experience than I, I would have been following him!

We both agree that the Warrior is a perfect blend of cruiser and sport bike, cornering-passing and cruising all in one.

Thanks for the ride!

John

Oh, and the mountains get better further up the road as can be seen in the background of my snowmobile pic on my signature. That pic is south of the Glenn Hwy in the Chugach mountains at Gunsight, about another 40 miles past where Oldman took the pic above.

That sounds good. I don't have 7 sleds like John, but I do have 3. If I could only have one toy I'm not sure if it would be a sled or the Warrior. Since the riding season is about the same for both up here I'd probably take the sled. For those of you who don't ride sleds, yes, they are that much fun! Mine is nothing fantastic, but it ain't bad. Polaris 700 XCSP with a 133x2 track. 600 pounds and 128hp. Lots of fun! Come on up Warstar. Winter or summer we can have some fun!
