Maybe I cannot find it, but someone give me a hand here.

I have under 400 miles on my '05 warrior (love it) and I want to change the oil. The guy that I want to be my mechanic (local yamaha shop) said that I should not use synthethic until after 2500 miles or so.

He wants the rings to seat with petro oil.

I did a bunch of reading this weekend on oils and it seems I would do better to use Shell Rotella T 15w-40. I really liked that it talked about synthethic having better 'staying power' at the top of the engine (while sitting in my garage) plus lower overall temperatures....If I read it right, synthethic is not more slippery than petro, just has better performance characteristics at low and higher temperatures.

I am also curious about the proper operating temperature of oil in the warrior. I have found some talk about not being below 180 deg to be sure of good flow, but I think I would like to shoot for 190-200 as a maximum, so I stay clear of that scary engine eatin temp of 240

These twins seem to want to be at a certain temperature to run correctly and I want to be sure I am taking care of it, its awesome...

Anybody got any input for me?

Rings are difficult to seat on the Warrior due to the ceramic cylinder coating. Suggest getting rid of the yammie lube as soon as possible but stay with dino oil until you have at least 1K on it.

Suggest hard rollons between 2K & 4K letting it decell in gear. Suggest you do not lug the engine in 4th & 5th gear, keep the rpm over 2 K even while cruising.

I'm getting in before this gets locked...

Mobil 1 V-twin Synthetic. Wait until about 2500 miles like your guys says.

thanks for the input

Decision:
Shell Rotella T 15w-40 (Dino Oil) until 2500 miles
Then
Shell Rotella T 15w-40 (Syn) every 3000 miles

I'm adding a temperature gauge to the bike so I can monitor the oil temp better.

Thanks again
