Could it be the engine temperature perhaps? The oil will expand as it gets hotter but not by very much. This is why we are supposed to check the oil at operating temp.
You should check your oil level when the bike is at riding temperature. Turn bike off, let sit for 10 minutes. Bike has to be level. Put on a bike stand or put a brick under kickstand to straighten as much as possible, then check oil.
I knew to check the oil with the bike level. I didn't know that the bike had to be at running temperature. Thanks for the tip. I guess I will check it when I fuel up and not before I ride. I guess I should have been able to figure that one out on my own. My first thought was that the oil may be draining back from the oil tank when it was sitting in the garage. I have heard of it before on a Yamaha XT600 which has a dry sump. Anyone know if I came get a manuel on line? I have seen the cd version for purchase on line. Either way, I need to get one.
