LOL, busted. Until he get's his pictures up here's a shot of mine. I had it on for over a year and works great. I just wish it was polished a little better before they chromed it. I can see grinding marks on the 3 inset areas of the cap. But the chrome looks just as good as it did a year ago.

Mine looked awesome too, for about 2 months. Then it turned yellow and the the chrome peeled off. Wahoo, worst chrome piece I've bought yet.

 

I don't have one, but I have seen one. You can also see the grinding marks on the inserts on the one I saw. It is a nice looking cap though, but I always seem to spaz out at gas stations, I would loose it. I do like it.

 

I will strip it down, buff it up real good and rechrome it if it flakes....its worth the extra cost.......nice piece........Thanks Steve for the Picture's...

If you want a chrome cap that locks then get the stock one chromed by Reza, I did and his team have done a good job. I love the OE cap too but the kids 'round 'ere would steal it as soon as I turned my head.

 

I have been waiting for the Cycle Image Stock Chrome Gas Cap for close to a year......got a bunch of excuse's, but no cap.....when did you purchase your cap Brit??? I got tired of waiting and purchased a stocked item from OE.....no excuse's.....

 

I've had it for well over 6 months now and like you, waited for quite some months for it. For what it's worth I actually believe that the better looking cap is the OE one, it's just a shame that it doesn't lock. I do remember Reza saying that Chroming the stock cap is a real pigs ear of a job.

 

Reza told me the same about the stock cap being a pain........another reason I opted for the OE Spin on cap.........I never had a problem with a spin on being messed with......most folks around here respect motorcycles in general....plus the OE Cap is a seal tight cap and locks down pretty tight.......

I'll try to take a closer pic than this one, but I had carsmetics shave off those ribbed lines off the stock cap and than he polished the whole thing. The outer rim is now smooth like the rest of the cap and his polishing job came out incredible. That's another option if someone wants a locking gas cap?

No Yellow on my cap..........like I have said....if the chrome fails.....I will strip it and get it rechromed......

 

That cap looks great. Especially against that blue. Very nice addition.

The yellow on mine is from gas drying in the grooves, it cleans right off, when I bother to wash it. The chrome is fine, it just wasn't polished very well before they chromed it.

 

Darkstar, I was always told you cannot rechrome metal? I'm not sure the technical reason, but once the chrome starts to chip,crack,peel,or pit, you cannnot strip it and rechrome it? I was only told this and not exactly sure myself if it is true or not?

 

We re-plate stuff at work all the time.

 

No...that is not true....I have had stuff rechromed before......I am not an expert on chroming, but I know it has been done on my Warrior more than once....I HATE scratched chrome..........

I think if I didn't have a lockinig one, it would get ripped off arounbd here. Cool lookin' cap, nice blue ride Darkstar. DS don't overtighten that thing. The O-ring will bind and stretch, somebody at work cranked mine down trying to be funny, the O-ring got all twisted to $hit. It comes off every time now when gassing up.

I have the OE Gas Cap also, I have had it since July without any problems and I love it but I have to ask the other owners of the cap...the rubber gasket on the cap....is it supposed to sit on the cap or in the bottom of the reservoir? My gasket seems to be loose as a goose. I guess I could always take a ride to OE and just ask them for a new gasket if that is the case also....Please let me know how your gaskets are and were they sit in the cap.
