Painted my wheels (pics)

I'm the type of guy that likes to do subtle things to a car or bike to change the overall appearence. I'm also more of a brushed aluminum person than a chrome person, so i decided to go a little bit of a "darker" route with my bike without blacking it out. For the wheels, i decided to paint the centers of the wheels a metallic black (it's more of a dark charcoal metallic. ****... it almost matches the paint on the tins!). In stock form i don't really like the way the sides of the spokes are machined to match the lip of the wheel, so i went this way with them (with inspiration from vector18! [/emoticons/emotion-5.gif] ). I was undecided on the pulley, because i didn't like it all black, but i also didn't like it all raw/brushed with the two-tone wheels, so i painted the center of the pulley and left the outside lip brushed to match the wheels (again... inspired by vector18). It will be a couple more weeks before i'm able to put everything back on the bike for pics (i'm also currently installing a 1000 lbs spring and the 6 degree triple trees), but here are some pics of just the wheels with newly mounted Metzeler tires (130 front, 210 rear)...

very subtle for sure. i had to look up a pic of stock to compare. i'm sure the color/metallic makes it more noticable in person. you mentioned it was similar to the stock tins.. and case you didnt know of these guys, and you want something that matches the titanium tins you can buy the exact OEM paint colors from www.color-rite.com or is it www.colorrite.com they sell pints to use in a spray gun, AND they sell them in spray cans that have GOOD tips. i've used the cans on a few indigo jobs that turned out GREAT.

have you considered polishing the lip? would be the easiest part of the wheel to polish. real easy to do, and would look great.

hmmmmm one thing..... would it be possible to brush the inside portion of the pulley. from the other side of the wheel..... you can see the rim and its not brushed. Thats subtle..... is there a reason why you didn't?

Yes, the reason is... i'm lazy. [/emoticons/emotion-2.gif] With as much as i have going on with work, racing, and keeping the woman happy, i'm surprised that i've found time to mess with the Warrior at this level, much less ride it! Although, for me, modding it is 75% of the fun of owning this bike. [/emoticons/emotion-1.gif]

Great tip on the paint source, thanks! I plan on polishing the lips of both wheels when i get the rear wheel modified to an 18"x8.5" for the 240 conversion (05/06 winter project). I didn't want to spend much time on the factory rear lip if it would just get cut off during the conversion. I DID however wet sand and polish the clear coat on the lips of both wheels to take out any minor scratches and make them really shine (they were getting a little dull), so i guess i'm not THAT lazy. Thanks for all the comments guys! [8D]

Looks great, what did you use to polish the pulley, I would like to do that to mine

It's actually just brushed. I stripped the factory black paint off (or is it powder coat?) with aircraft paint stripper. That get's most of it off, but then you have to spend a LOT of time getting the rest off with a paint stripping wheel or sanding wheel on a drill or die-grinder. Then detail it by hand with sandpaper and scotchbrite pads. Even after spending a lot of time doing that, you can still see blemishes in the casting of the pulley (another reason i decided to paint the center of it). [xx(] Here's a pic of the pulley before i painted it...

You call that lazy?! I wish I had that "little" energy to not do something. I like very much.

Chuck, looks good! What's that piece on your left side swing arm?
