you will need a nine volt adapter if you plan to download maps without the power on. If you turn bike on then you don't need the 9 volt serial adapter, which you can buy on the powercommander web site. btw thats what I used to download my map with PCIII off my bike.,

 

Assuming I have the DynoJet software running to load maps. I plug into the PC3 serial port, computer serial port, then turn the bike on? Does it have to be running?

no it doesnt have to be running. i bought 50' of serial port cable so i could just throw it out of my computer room which is up stairs. if you have the 9v adapter for the pc111 you dont have to turn the ign on

 

i like to load maps with the bike running because the software shows a digital readout of the idle speed, which usually changes slightly when you load a new map. you can then readjust the idle more accurately. yes, it's a 9-pin regular serial cable. you can also use a palm pilot to load maps, but definitely buy the palm kit from powercommander to avoid frying the palm.

 

I mapped my PC3 with the bike running. There were a couple things I adjusted the idle speed and the something with the throttle. My wife thought the program was cool.

 

If the bike is running, no need for 9volt adapter. If bike is not running, then you must use the 9volt adapter.

 

Do it with the bike running and you'll hear the improvement, the second you hit Enter!
