Possible PCIII serial/RJ45 connection

I know some of us have a hard time of connection our computers to the PCIII while its on the bike. I know I'm tired of borrowing my old mans laptop whenever I want to check something. I was thinking about something. At work, I use a RJ45 - DB9 adapter to connect my computer to our phone system to make changes. It takes just a serial connection + null modem adapter to make changes. I take the serial adapter (female) on one end, use a 50 ft. cat 5 cable and then put another serial adapter (male) on the other thing and it works great. You think this would work with the PCIII? I'll try to bring the adapters home from work with me along with a long cable and try it this week. I know you can get cheap 100 ft. long calbes on ebay for 15 bucks or so. Just maybe an option for us if it works.

I would think it would work with Cat 5 cable. Just don't use a null modem adapter, as you are just making a long serial cable. Where did you get the RJ 45 adapters?

They were supplied to us by the phone system company. I found a link below which I believe would be what we need.

Good price too. I'll have to look into that. I put an old computer in my garage, but the 10 ft cable that was supplied by DynoJet is just too short. It should have been 20 ft.

I put an old computer and monitor in the garage. I like to have both the bike and screen close enough to one another that I can watch changes while working on the bike.

I park mine on the side of the house and route a serial cable out the window... This could be a new topic for a vote;

i guess you didnt read my post. i did this months ago with 25ft of serial port cable & it works great

Did you post in the MODS section with a how to? If not please do, as I will be recieving mine soon and don't really, hey, I just thought of something!!! Can you use a PDA, palm computer??
