Power Commander ???

I received a Vance & Hines catalog in the mail today. The Power Commander Application Chart shows: Yamaha Road Warrior Power Commander IIIR 02, Part No. 21339. I thought that the PCIII was the only product to be used on the Warrior. What's up with the "R" suffix?

I've gotten the impression from one of these catalogs, that the Power Commander units (desigated by part no.) are configured by exhaust application with the correct Map already loaded into it. Is this correct?

The 'R' version of a PCIII has "additional circuitry and in some cases, additional connectors, which allow Ignition adjustment as well as fuel adjustment." Apparently, the 'R' version for the Warrior is currently only available from V&H, although it has been suggested that a special version may soon be available from Orient Express too.

I would like to see a version that allows raising the stock rev limit by perhaps 1000 rpm.

Most PCIII's can be purchased with your choice of any one available map already loaded. (I believe the V&H version will store 3 maps). Regardless, it is fairly easy to change maps using a personal computer.

this week I recd a response from powercommander/dynojet re when the 'r' would be available for this bike. they responded that they did not and had no plan to make the pc3r for the warrior. with that info I went ahead and ordered the standard '3' model. if the 'r' is truly available, I will have to write a very nasty letter to dynojet. thanks for the heads up.

Since I started this thread, I thought that I should seek out the answer and report back to all of you. Apparently there is not an "R" suffix version of the Power Commander III for the Warrior. Following is the e-mail response that I got back from Dynojet Tech Support.
Tom

Dear Tom,

The information/part numbers on the Power Commander website are correct. There is no PCIIIr for the Road Star Warrior. Their (V&H) part numbers do not correspond to ours. The V&H units come loaded with three maps specifically for their exhausts. Our units are automatically mapped for a stock bike only, however, if specified we will load any map for you at no charge. A laptop is not entirely necessary, in the event you wanted to re-map your PCIII, a desktop computer will work fine. If you have any further questions, feel free to let me know or contact our tech line at 800-992-4993.

Thanks,

This is the response that I received from DynoJet today also...

I am not sure what you are referring to. There has never been a PCIIIr model for the Warrior and we do not plan to release one.

Regards.

Kinda sux... guess there is just not enough demand for the Warrior.... Dem bastards... /emoticons/emotion-1.gif

Good to hear ,whats the idea of using a desktop, a really long cable ???
Does it use a printer type port, or just serial as i have read ???

Kyle

You just drive the warrior into the house and park her next to your computer [/emoticons/emotion-2.gif] I actually do use a desktop. My computer is near the front door and I pull the bike up close. The cable is serial only and is like 9ft long...B.
