Problems w/Speed Bleeder

Has anyone who has tried the Galfer S/S Brakelines, and Speed Bleeders had a problem with the Speed Bleeders? I changed my brakelines today. Spent over an hour trying to bleed them using the Speed Bleeders. I tried with them loosened 1/4-1/2 turn(as suggested on the package), full turn, real loose, real tight, every possible way, and they wouldn't work. The fluid just wouldn't flow through them. I put the stock bleeders back on, and did it the old fashioned way in 5 minutes. I don't know if the internal check valves in the Speed Bleeders weren't functioning or what. Anyway, now that it's done, I'm real happy with the brake lines. S/S w/clear coating matches the Liquid Silver perfectly. I just wish I didn't spend $10.00 each on the Speed Bleeders.

They had one (A MityVac) at my local M/C shop but it was $43.95 (for the plastic one). I wasn't gonna spend that, on something I would most likely only use once, esp. after already spending $30.00 on the speed bleeders. Turns out I didn't need either. I'm gonna try to return the Speed Bleeders.
