I know when I changed my forward controls I had problems shifting because the shifter was adjusted too high and I wasn't lifting my foot high enough or pressing down far enough. How long have you had them on your bike?

Sorry about the caps. I'm kinda new to this sort of thing.Spudly I just put the controls on last night.The controls seem to work fine most of the time until I get to 5th gear and then its like the trans. locks up.I will try and call phat performance today and maybe they can help me out.I will also try to adjust the lever down some more tonight and see what happens.I also noticed the bolts are hard to start in the bolt holes.I even had to re-tap the hole for the shift rod bolt to get it started.I figured this had something to do with the chroming process.

 

This might sounds stupid, but make sure that you completely let the shifter down before trying to kick it up again.

I do that a bit with the Legends... I will leave my foot somewhat up, so when I try to shift up again it just wont go.

 

Tried that CarKnee and that does not seem to be the problem.When the bike is just sitting I have to roll the bike a few feet forwards and backwards before it will ever go into fifth. its like it goes in half way and then finally cathes and goes into gear.

 

I sometimes have problem shifting back to 1st from 5th when stopped. I just slghtly let clutch out,when I hear transmission repond I can continue downshifting.

 

Have had the legends since they first came out, no shifting problems what so ever. Try andjusting the lever posoition by rotating the clamp at the transfer case linkage so that the shift lever is at the right angle for you.

 

When your bike comes to a stop, you should already have it in neutral or first gear. You should never be trying to shift from fifth to first while you are stopped. Those gears need to be turning to shift properly.

I was trying to shift it(with bike off and parked) through all the gears before riding it to see if it was working correctly.Gave up on figuring it out and went out to see if it would shift with the bike moving and it works fine while riding but then when I come to a complete stop I still have alot more difficulty getting into neutral than with the stock setup.

 

just a matter of finess, have to get used to the different lever position is all, different angle, different dangle.

Can you post a picture of your shift linkage setup? The way you adjust your linkage can have an affect on the leverage or you may have something in a bind. I've got the Legends on mine and it shifts very easy and smooth. When I stop in 1st gear, a simple and easy click on the shifter will bump it right into neutral with no hunting.

 

Wolfhound,I don't own a digital camera or scanner so I can't post any pics but I checked out some of the pics of other peoples and mine looks the same.The only time I really notice it is when I am on a slight incline.I will try to adjust the linkage and see if that helps it any.
