Breaking in is all about rpm's and not getting on it too hard too soon.

Is that a can of worms that just popped open? You'll hear many different opinions about break in. My opinion is that the proper break in for a Warrior is letting it idle for approx 5 minutes the very first time you start it. Then climb aboard and ride it like you stole it!! Always let it warm up then jump on it. For 35 years I have been breaking in engines like that with no problems at all. First oil change somewhere between 100 and 150 miles. Next oil change between 5 and 600 miles. Then, at 1200 - 1500, switch to synthetic oil. PCIII can be put on right away.

You can install it right away, but remember that any problems are most likely to show up in the first few hundred miles. A PC could give your dealer a reason to fight you on a serious warranty claim. They, the dealer, ultimately have to prove that your mod caused the failure, but ask yourself do you need the extra hassle? Thats why I waited for the first 1k miles to roll by before starting any mods to the engine.

OldMan' Have all your engines, for 35 years, had nikasil coated bores and would that make a differance?

Simply put, they did not, and I haven't got a clue. [/emoticons/emotion-4.gif] That's how i did the break in on my Warrior and it runs very strong, no oil useage at all.

Old man, I am with you. I have alwats broke them in the way I intended on riding it for it's lifetime. However, there is someone on here that will tell you that doing that will cause glazing of the cylinders or something like that. I think it may have been ChurchKey. There is a thread on here that you can search for that is specific to breaking it in.

OldMan, I think "Break in IS way in the past!". Cylinders are no longer cross hatched w/ridged rings to wear in, this used to be the most important part of break in. Now it's just all the other moving parts wearing into each other. I think regular oil changes and not lugging it will do just fine, but it's no longer our problem/just new owners. Like you say "Break in is way in the past!"
