I looked very briefly yesterday on google for aftermarket R1 forks. I didn't find any.
Has anyone seen any?

 

I tried starting a new post at the R-1 forum and no one posted an answer to it.

 

Maybe there are none and they're bitter.

 

NO they are different. Maybe they will both fit the same bike but in fact the flow and contour of the lines is different. The 2003 R1 will be a historic bike, since Yamaha only used it's design for just one year, the 2004 model will be 300% different.

 

Puya is right. I have a 03 R1 fender on my 02 R1 forks, but the 01 is different. If you sweet talk your parts man , you may be able to pick up a new fender for about 89.00. Stay off e-bay though, thery're generally trashed and people want too much for them. FYI, the gap btwn the fender and 18" tire and rim is pretty tight, it'll fit but leaves little room for gravel to get through. Being a FL resident I only have to worry about sand so this is not an issue. Up in Deals Gap, there was a bit of gravel around and I was scratching my head trying to figure out what all the noise was coming out from under the tank.[xx(] Turns out it was the small rocks shooting out from the fender.[:0]

 

JP how hard would it be to fit the R1 fender to the Warrior shock? Just curious I really like the look so down the road it might be a nice looking change.

 

Daimon I think Churchkey did that prior to going witht he R1 Forks. He could probably tell us.

 

I do like that look better than the Warrior fender and those plastic craps. HUM Gotta start saving for future mods /emoticons/emotion-1.gif

OH and just think once all them kids crash their new R1's soon the parts should get cheaper /emoticons/emotion-1.gif

 

Thanks JP for the info on clearance. PUYA thanks also. I guess my quesion should have been, Will a 1998 R1 fender bolt up to a 2002-03 R1 fork? I think I will like the look better also, like daimon said.

Some looking around, the 99-01 are the same the p1 p0 is a color code they were much fatter the 03 is slimmer but both look like they mount the same.

 

The earlier R1 fenders (pre 02) can be retrofitted to the Warriors legs but I'm not sure how they'll fit onto the 02 and up R1 fork legs. They did look close when Billy and I were together. I'll check into it further. For now here's the best pics I can come up with. 01 on top, both in the middle and 02 on the bottom. I'm sure someone here has a clean shot of an early model R1 for better comparison.

Which do you like more? I am kinda torn, the fatter old style is "more" different and seams to get noticed more. Both look good though.

 

I like them both and wish I had one.

Church sent me a drawing of the mount and it is easy to make. If you want I will forward it to you.
On e-bay right now there are tons of front fenders. New is like 80 bucks and if you look you can get them for under 40 used and in good shape just needing paint which even new will need.

Like you I like both and am getting one and don't care to much about the year, I may just need to mod the mount but that's no big deal.

And in my looking I saw several sites in Japan with pics of fenders. Not sure what #$%@ #$ $#$# #@% %#%$ and a letter that looked like a upsidedown house with a goat in it meant but I know they were selling them /emoticons/emotion-1.gif

 

I did get the 1998 fender on ebay for $35. If it won't fit, no big deal. Now I need the fork.

 

No PM me with your e-mail I'll send you the drawing. It is for that fender 98 99 00 are all the same. 1/8" alot so you can cut it with a jig saw and then use a drimmle.

The fender im getting is blue. If anyone has a red one and wants to trade let me know. will get mine in a week.

 

I don't think the red would match either so it really does not matter to much what color. Plus you have to grind the fender some I think so even if it did match your up for a re-paint.

That looks like the same fender I won on ebay a couple of weeks ago. The guy took my money but never sent the fender. Just joking. Did I scare you. Have fun.

Adding an R-1 front fender is one the the mods I plan to do this winter. Here is a link for a new fender, which is probably the way I will go since there has been a lot of bad publicity about E-bay these days.
