[?]Okay all you fellow Warrior's...any one with past, present..or even future original 2-2 Speed* pipes...pipe up here. Last night after firing up the beast in the parking lot at work at about 12am, a buddy stopped me and we started chatting. After about 10-15 minutes sitting on the bike, he looked down at said..."whoa"..I looked and my pipes for about the first 10-12 inches were RED HOT.....please tell me this is okay since they are stainless steel and no heat shields...or is this something I have to worry about??

Okay, I'm back, I tried to post a reply earlier about my plugs but I had a power outage at my house....**** Detroit Edison. Anyway, I checked 2 plugs, the left rear looks good(to me) the insulator is a tanish color, the left front is sooted up pretty good, black all the way around...from my understanding from past and present searches, this would indicate rich and would not cause an over heat problem..I think, right? Now, another Q, if I had the original plugs in from the stock set up and then put on the Speed* pipes and air cleaner, would that give me a bad plug read and should I put new plugs in and then read them....All four plugs I presume as well? And yes 03Blue, you are correct, it is NOT connected properly..lol And yes Fafo, it is popping, but don't most of our Warrior's. So Meatball, I guess I will mess with the ECU but do I have to put in new plugs every time I change it to get a proper read?..Thanks guys. Now remember, these ARE Stainless steel pipes. Still any difference?

if there is no sheilding at all and you were looking at the pipes in the dark, it is possible for the pipes to have a little glow to them.

was it a dark red, kinda faint glow? or was it a bright red, headers look like there about to melt red? and was it dark at the time?

and again this is only if there is no shielding and if your looking right at the pipe off the engine. im assuming the bike was idling why you were talking to your friend? if so you might want to shut it off next time, nothing worse then letting a big aircooled motor sit there and run, as there is no moving air to cool it...

and black sooty plugs normally does indicate a rich condition, tan would indicate a good mixture

I think the main problem here is that you didn't have the cooling system engaged. Nothin wrong with the bike... operator error!

ROFLMAO

ONAGER: No, there is no shielding and it was pitch black. And ok, maybe Red Hot was a bit much but ya know, yea more like glowing red, about 8-10 inches down coming right from the engine. Yes I was idleing, and by the time I got a few miles they were fine. So, ya thinkin no worries then ey??

I've raced motocross for 15 years and when I started running friday night arenacross on a fourstroke I saw my pipe glowing cherry red while setting at the gate waiting for my race.I thought something was wrong but it was just the lack of air from just sitting still.Almost all four stroke race bikes have stainless headpipes ans a titanium mid and muffler pipe ,and anytime you see one at night sitting still you will almost be able to see through it.So dont worry about hurting anything but deffinately would bump up the ECU so your bike runs how it should with your new pipes.
