Basicly im asking if I can remove the muffler in such a way that allows me to put it back on if I dont like the way it sounds/runs.

Yes you can, but it doesn't sound that great and is pretty lound when you get on it.

 

Should be pretty simple....


disconnect the top and bottom brackets that hold the rear can in place.... then at the front of the can there should be a screw that loosens a clamp type connection....loosen that and pull the can right off....

There are no valves, or cones, or restrictors or anything else in the headers. Once the can is off, if you dont like the sound of the open header pipes, there are some slip on after market pipes that sound pretty good. Personally I like the Dale Walker pipe but the sound of the Road House is awesome (for a slip-on).

 

Thanks for the input. I plan on getting a full system in a few months when I have the cash, but I was going to play with what Ive got till that time comes.


Anyone know if its bad for the motor running it from the header?

 

Looks like everyone covered it. Shouldn't take more than 20min max...

 

Check out my gallery... I've been running a 2.5" exhaust tip on the open header for over a year with no problems. Just bumped up the ECU a few points.

P.S. yes it's LOUD!!!!! and yes a set of pipes will be much better than doing this but with a limited amount of $$ this is better than that ugly *ss stock muffler.

well took off the water heater today... I love it!!!! the flames shooting out are the best part at night! I was wondering if this could hurt the bike in any way... everyone is saying to bump the ecu up 3 points or so, what if i leave it the way it is.

naw your bike will be fine without the canister.

 

You have NO backpressure now so you'll be running pretty lean. This will create excess engine heat and may present a problem if you live in a hot climate. If you're going to run with open pipes, I encourage you to bump the ECU as has been recommended to you.
