Running/Signal lights Removed-oops!

Installed a set of LED turn signals on the Yam sport sheild last week which left the "blue wire", for the running lights, disconected. This creates a problem with the fuel pump, decompression cylinoide, and the relay that seems to tie all these together. Turn of f the ignition and the fuel pump will still run. Toggel the kill switch off and the decompression cylinoid will chatter to no end. Weird! Need a load attached to the "blue wire" to have the power from the relay to bleed off. Installed a small relay, grouned it and fixed the problem. well it took several hours and a few good minds to come up with a ten minute fix. Any other ideas or a better fix for this? Tried adding several LED target lights but still not enough of a load. Stock is best!

Install a small light bulb & socket like a dash light for a car & leave it in the head light shell.

This is a recurring problem when the front running lights are removed, the ecu needs to read a complete circuit in that system.

There are numerous threads on this subject, try the search feature.

I asked the guys at High-Tech Speed the same question. They said wire a 12v 25ohm resistor inline and that will create the same load as a light bulb. But you never have to worry about it breaking or burning out.

Yay!!!! I just looked, I'm not a Go-ped any more!!!!!!!!!!!!!![/emoticons/emotion-2.gif]

Wow member number 5000!. My how we have grown. M Boogie there's a wealth of information here so practacly anything your going to do to your bike has been hashed out already,so you wont have to yank all your hair out trying to figure out what to do when something goes wrong. Just use search. Good luck, have fun, And welcome.

Yea I have the same question as Poults.

RS Pn/271-133 is a 50ohm not a 25[?]

Which do we use 25 or 50 ohm resistor[?]

Do you need a 25ohm resistor for each light (left and Right)[?][?][?]

I'm sooooo confused[xx(].... speaking as a Mech. Engineer
(here at workthey don't let me touch anything with wires on it)

Im sorry I don't have any pics, but its pretty simple. What I did is cut the connectors of the running lights (at the light), the running light end (blue) and the end of the ground wires (black) so that I could use the stock connectors of the lights that plugs into the harness, so that it connects and disconects like stock. Then soder the ends onto the resistors and plug one end of the resistor to the running light wire (blue) at the harness and plug the other end of the resistor into the ground wire (black) at the harness. It makes a complete circuit just like if the lights were still there. Thats it, if I you have any problems let me know (or if I wasn't that clear). Good luck guys, let me know how it works out for you.

You will need one resistor per running light, but they are sold as a pair at radio shack for about $2.00.

Thanks, that's the exact description/info I was looking for.

Man, You guys on this forum are great.
Without this forum I would never dreamed of doing all the mods I've done on my own.

I have another lighting question:
Any suggestions/tips on LED accent lighting?
I got some small housings from a local molder and bought 50 high-intensity LED's on-line, now all I need to do is get my EE co-workers to help me pick a resistor and wire/mount them up. Being an ME my Electrical skill are lacking, but improving.
I learned a lot doing the internal wiring on the Barron's Radius bars.

THANKS AGAIN,

tim
