Recently got a warrior to get running the shift lever doesn’t return to the resting point after shifting into gear in either direction. I’ve seen that on other bikes it can be the shift return spring is broken. Would there be anything else that could cause it or is that pretty much the only possible culprit? Thanks ahead of time for your help.
Check page 5-69 (or there-about) in the e-copy of the service manual found in the Manuals tab at www.rswarriordocs.com
Get the pdf copy that has both supplements.
While there, check the 'Other' tab for the 2002 factory parts manual. Generic Disassembled views. Using those part numbers, you can locate parts on any Yamaha parts website and that will give you the revised part numbers based on updates and based on model year differences.
Also notice the factory assembly manual. It has complete cable set-up and adjustment (the cable has a mid-point adjustment plus the handlebar end has a fine-adjustment).
It sounds like either the external rotation spring is missing or bad, or possibly the push (pull) lever inside the case underneath the clutch cable's motor end connection has slipped out.
I’ll look into the parts breakdowns more and see what I find and look into those issues. I’ll post a video tonight showing the issue when I get home from work for better clarification.
Assuming the shift lever and accompanying interconnection linkage isn't damaged or frozen then you'll need to inspect the Shift Shaft and Stopper Lever components as shown in the Top RH Corner of enclosed photos.
The YFSM has some excellent documentation in Chapter 5, Shift Shaft and Stopper Lever
