Just talked to a machinist buddy of mine here at work. Turns out this is not a common problem, but is possible with nylock nuts. He says its possible to pull a thread or two while tightening (although you'll probably here and/or feel a pop). All it takes is another 1/2 turn or so in either direction and the threads will cross and become fouled all by themselves, the threads being bound in the nut can't bite the threads on the bolt... The dremel's getting busted out when I get home... I hope the bolt isn't on backorder, or maybe I'll rig something up from the parts store - I just can't see cutting the nut off without damaging the bolt..

Well, after 10 minutes with the dremel that nut is off. I'm assuming I pulled a thread or two and crossed it from there. Anyway, $1.50 at the hardware store later these are the results [/emoticons/emotion-1.gif]

I learned two important lessons from this fiasco. Don't be in a hurry to put things together, and the dremel is the greatest tool invented... Thanks for everyone's input, now I got ridin' to do [/emoticons/emotion-2.gif][/emoticons/emotion-2.gif][/emoticons/emotion-2.gif][/emoticons/emotion-2.gif]

Crus, it's all good! I'm glad someone had a chance to laugh - figuring sharing the sheer humiliation of my misfortune was my only outlet at the moment. In the end, my levers are on and I'm on 2-wheels... Thanks!
