Which are stickier?

Metzeler ME880 or Avon Storm?

Before I buy another set this winter, I want to know. Really though, does anyone have technical data that shows proof that one is stickier than the other?

I think there is technical data on both manufacturer's websites.

For Avon, if you look at the AV55 and AV56 Storm ST's you'll probably find they are generally regarded as being the stickier tire, however just saying that brings up a torrent of opinions!

Excluding the racing /slash/track tires out there, and considering road tires only, its probably very close between these two except the Storm ST's last a lot longer in real-world riding (which might also prompt a torrent of opinions!).

Thanks AZW.

I'm just torn because I had Metz on my vstar a couple yrs ago, and they were awesome. I just put over 7k on my Avon Storms this year on the warrior, and they were awesome. Looks on both are awesome. Handling on both is awesome....

The storms change shape through leans, which is pretty cool technology, but sometimes at faster speeds, it kind of freaks me out. It felt like the bike was starting to go out from under me, but it always planted me deeper and more solid through the turn. I remember that it made me feel unsure, and that's really dangerous. I guess that's why instinctively, I'm leaning more towards the Metzeler side of the street. If I stay with the stock tire sizes, I don't see premature wear being an issue.

Totally different tire on the VStar. That is a bias ply tire, where the Warriors take a radial, which is closer to a super sport or a sport touring tire. The Metz 880 is one of the best cruiser tires on the market, I had them on my VStar 1100, and they lasted 10k miles, with regular burnouts (though the burnouts were much shorter than Warrior burnouts!). But you can't compare your VStar Metz to a Warrior Metz. They are 2 different tires. Me, I switched to the Avon Storms last year. While I have never had the metz on my warrior, so I can't really compare, I can say that I LOVE the Avons. It's like power steering in the turns. As far as accel grip, lets put it this way. With my stock Battlax I could spin the tire in first gear at almost any speed. With the Avon, if I am over 25 mph and I wind it up and drop the clutch, my front wheel is off the ground.

I Have over 70k on my Warrior and I've tried every tire available, and found the Michelin pilot road 2 hooks up the best and lasts longer. The only drawback (for some) is Michelin's largest tire is a 190.The size difference is not noticable from the 200. I also run the Michelin on my concours (C14). The best mileage on both bikes!!
