stock ecu reset itself after handle bar change

installed my thunder round air kit today, and discovered later that the ecu had reset itself from the +3 that i had left it at to 1 and 0. i haven't disconnected the battery or anything, but i disconnected all the wiring in the headlight shell in order to change the handle bars, and i think this is the only thing that could have caused the ecu to reset itself. this poses some interesting implications for those running pc3's, and who have done handle bar mods and the like where the connectors were taken apart in the headlight shell. possibly the pc's aren't operating from the same baseline as designed or intended....

it's also interesting that the settings were co1 at +1, and co2 at 0, instead of some of the negative numbers that the bikes came with. mine were originally at -2 and -3 respectively.

i think it would pay to know for those who use the pc3's to know what the baseline settings were before installing the pc3, to compare that to what the ecu settings might be after disconnecting the wires between the tach and the ecu

any thoughts?

I'm going to check on mine right now. I just had all of that off & ran 10 miles to see if anything would fall off before I leave for Daytona in the morning. She seemed to backfire a little more than normal. I'll get back to you tonight.

Pulled & grounded #27 & went into the diag mode. NO CHANGES to previous settings. I had the entire wireing harness disconnected, headlight & shell off as well as the tach. I did disconnect the battery before any electrical work was done or anything was disconnected.

Maybe the change takes place when something in the system is unpluged but the battery is still connected. If I'm reading Torque's post correctly he opened the harness with the battery still connected. The ECU probably detected an open circuit & baselined itself. Just a scientifically calculated wild a$$ guess on my part. I'm good to go tomorrow & YES!!! I have my rain gear. Forcast is for 40 to 60% rain for the next 6 days in Daytona.

i know i'm not freaking out here. for certain i had evened up both the settings the last time i fooled around with it. makes me wonder now what the heck happened. the one thing i haven't done is disconnect the battery before i disconnected the wiring harness. as far as i know, the settings have never changed before. i might have to see if i can duplicate this again

With the battery connected I changed my bars, cut all the wires and add 8 inches to each of them, I got a short in the bars and I have to take all the wires out and do it again, this time with the wires into a plastic jacket, After all of that? Nothing happened to the computer, still in the same settings.
