It allows the bike to start in gear when the clutch lever is pulled.

 

u can remove it, just jumper the wires, but beware it will start in gear (with clutch out)

 

Slothy, By "jumper" do you mean to connect or tie together?

You can make it so it won't start in gear but I wouldn't suggest that. If you stall for some reason on the road and need to start while rolling it'll be a major PIA to shift to neutral and start simultaneously. Your primary concern should be to get the motor started then shift gears if you need to. I have mine overridden and have it so it will not start with the sidestand down. I jumped mine at the back of the factory connector in the headlight shell. If you have a wiring diag it'll be simple to figure out.

THAT'S why mine no longer starts in gear! Must have shorted out when I did the bars...

Screw it.. I'll just ahve to live with it and learn to shift to neutral when starting... I'm not ABOUT to pull those bars/wires again...

Mayeb I'll jump 'em out at the factory connector inside the headlight... That might work..

 

ok good, i'm used to harleys that start in gear anyway because I've got a part time job at the local dealer

 

well just make it a habbit of pulling in the clutch to start it (then ya can start it in gear and not have to worry about looking like a retard as it jumps gear lol) - after riding sportbikes for 6-7 years - it has become natural to do so for me

 

Yep, saftey switch, you can eliminate it but the first time you look like a dork at the cruise in because you forgot to pull in the clutch you'll probably put it back on. P.S. bikes never used to have them and my GSXR has been bypassed, and yes I have looked like a dork at the track.

 

If you swap out to custom hand switches/controls like I have then you'll ned to bypass this. I wouldn't remove it if I weren't doing this.
