One tank of premium half used, then topped off with regular. I think it's pinging, but I've never heard a bike do it before.

 

When mine goes in I'm going to leave it with them with 1 gallon of premium. Then I can slowly, never actually filling the tank all the way, lower the octane to see how low it will go. Then go up a notch. That's my plan if they ever call me back.

 

i had my dealer drain both tanks when i took the bike in and supplied a gas can with 3.5 gallons of 93 octane

 

I think I remember hearing the HC pistons needed at least 89 octane to prevent ping.

 

Most types of performance mods. Well.....I should be careful about how I say this. "Certain" types of performance mods will require a higher octane gasoline to prevent the pinging. Thats why you have to be really careful with the mods you make. The mods may require a higher octane than what is readily available at your local Sunoco/Chevron/Texaco. I would try about a gallon or so of 89 octane, run it for a bit and see how it goes. If the pinging goes away, you have your answer. If not, try the same thing with premium. Hope this helps!!!

If I ever get my 108" kit with 11 to 1 and cams from OE Im only running The highest octane gas I can find.

With the higher compression you should be running premium gas. The part that threw me is that you said it's doing it at idle. If it's a gas problem it should only be doing it under load. If the gas doesn't solve your problem you should check your valve clearance.

 

It happens when i torque is under load and when i torque it from idle, after it's warmed up. I put premium in and need to run the tank empty, then go premuim. Also, a tune job might be in order, i know someone who'll do it for 100 bucks. It do run!

 

Did you adjust your PC111?

 

i drove my bike till it sputtered and then filled it up with 93 before i took it to the dealer. hopefully today is the day, cross your fingers [/emoticons/emotion-2.gif]

 

[8D]You must run premium fuel with the HC pistons.
If it is not pinging then the valves need to be adjusted,
The hydrolic lifters are only going to compensate for the tightest
valve as 1 valve on each duel rocker arm is fixed 1 is adjusted with a screw tappet which ever has the least clearence is what the lifter will react to.[8D]
