New sound coming out of the bike. It sounds like mabey a lifter has collapst or something. The tapping sound changes with the RPM. Can this hurt the engine? Any Ideas? She's got about 1200 miles since I picked her up.

It can hurt your pride and sanity.
If it is a colasped lifter no harm will be done to my knowledge. Just the valves will not open as much and reduce power. I am guessing it needs to be adjusted. some one put them on there side and you got an air pocket in them. the air worked its way out and now noisy lifters.
If it was mine I wouldn't run it untill I figured out what was going on. There are many components in the valve train that could be causing your noise (lack of oil, cam shaft lobe, push rod, spring, rocker arm, valve, ect.) It is more than likley an adjustment but don,t risk tearing something else up untill you are sure. This is just my opinion.
I turned around and took her back home, I'm not taking a chance with this one. Most likely I'll take it to a local mechanic and get his opinion. It still under workmanship warranty for another 2 months.
Do they need to pull the valve covers to adjust the backlash?

Yes They do. Sorry your having so much trouble!
Listened to it last night and it sounds like like an old car I use to have with collapsed lifters. I'm going to get an estimate at another place, pay to have it done and chock it up to experience. Baby needs a new doctor.
