Anybody know about this, a friend of mine send me this but i dont know if the warrior is include in this recall !!!!

Yamaha Recalls Motorcycles for Improperly Designed Throttle Position Sensor
Yamaha has recalled 2005 FJR1300, 2005 FZS600, 2005 XV1700, 2005 YZF-R1, 2004 FJR1300, 2004 FZS600, 2004 XV1700, 2004 YZF-R1, 2003 FJR1300, 2003 XV1700, and 2002 XV1700 models. On certain motorcycles, an improperly designed throttle position sensor could cause an intermittently unstable idle when the engine is at idling speed when the motorcycle is stopped or during low-speed operations. The engine could stall as a result. If the engine stalls after the operator disengages the clutch in a low gear while riding, the rear tire might slip momentarily if the operator abruptly re-engages the clutch. 39,000 motorcycles are affected.

Yeah originally from Boston, been in Malden for 20yrs. now, married a great woman who supports me. She is actually going to buy me a sissybar for Father's Day. I contacted Shadow670 (Art) from Maine and hope to hook up with him this Summer and would like to see if anyone else is interested in some rides. Are you the one who has vance and Hines pipes? you may have answered my querry on exhausts. I opted for the Speedstar. I like the look and supposed not loss of power. I may try upping the ecu once the pipes are on.

I do run the V&H big shots. Love them. Actually added the quiet baffles to them becuase the stock baffles (if you wanna call them baffles) had nothing to them. SO Once I added the quiet baffles I gained some back pressure and some low end torque. Very noticable change along with a different sound. More bump bump bump, rather than the bap bap bap. My brother in law lives in Lewiston Maine and I usually trailer up to his place then we head out from there. Last year we put like 700 miles on one weekend up through the rangley lake region. Very nice cruise!.

We've been talking about calling out the CT, RI and MA and NH riders to head up and meet at NED (Epping NH) for some drag races some weekend. Watch the NE club thread from time to time. I'm sure we are all chomping at the bit to get out and together soon man!.

Hey, how long have your TPS recalls been taking on the average? We have a huge trip coming up and I don't want to be left behind.

Mine took a day but made an appointment a week in advance. All depends on your dealer and how busy they are. Re-calls don't get bumped to the front unfortunately.

This is Bernie Lewis. I have been riding full size motorcycles for over 30 years with no accidents. I was leaving work and the pavement was totally dry. I came to stop at a red light at a Y intersection. I started going one way and changed my mind to take the other road. I pulled in the clutch (no throttle),changed direction and let the clutch out-the bike flipped on me. Next thing I know my head is hitting the pavement and the bike is on top of me. The recall came a month later! I got another recall in February regarding the coil matter. That is why I am asking if anyone had the same thing happen to them. I am not baiting anyone. I had a witness from work who saw the whole thing and couldn't believe her eyes. She knows I am an experienced rider and told me it looked like the bike flipped inexplicably!

My dealer said it would take 3 hours if i schedule the bike in.

hyungster, take your bike to Matther Mayeda at OTD CycleSports in Marina Del Rey. They took good care of my bike for the recalls.

That's where i was. I still need to do the recalls and have them take a look at the starter, it takes a little extra to start and it's a new battery SRV14.

I've got another 800miles before my next oil change.

Guys, I need some advice.
I bought my bike in January (but it's a 2004 used bike) in the States and brought it to Hungary, Europe (my home). It had been everything great until September, when I experienced sudden engine stops and weird rpm changes. I took my beloved bike to my favourite Yamaha dealership where they found that the TPS causes my problems. They also found my bike amongst the recalled bikes but they couldn't enter my bikes data to their system because as they said my bike is not a "European bike" and therefore they couldn't find my VIN in their system. I thought OK, it can't be a big problem, I call the Yamaha USA, explain the situation and they will probably send me the new TPS in exchange for the wrong one or will help me to set this up with a dealer. Unfortunately they said nothing, actually they said I should take the bike to an American dealer and they will replace the TPS for free. It sounds great except it would take approximately 4 month and 1500 USD sending my bike to the States and get it back. They also said that's not their problems that I took out the bike for the States. I agree but who designed badly the TPS? Was it me? I don't think so.
I have two options, buying the TPS (for 500 USD here in Hungary, or for ~300+shipping in the States) what's really not what I want, or fighting for my truth.
Now I'm looking for anything useful. Any ideas how can I get a properly working TPS or a phone number to someone at the Yamaha who is responsible for customer satisfaction or anything. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello Elek,

Here's a link to the actual recall.
http://nhthqnwws112.odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/docservlet/Artemis/Public/Recalls/2006/V/RCRIT-06V371-6123.pdf

Note, the heading to the .pdf document containing the recall information is from Yamaha Motor Corp. USA and privides a phone number. There is a phone number for customer relations within the bulletin on the last page of the document.

Hope this gets you on the right road. Specialy since it was a USA manufactured bike? I would hope that YAMAHA would support you. Maybe ship you a new TPS in the mail?? who knows.

Thank you Gary!

I called them and tried to get another answer but unfortunately failed again. I have been told the same. "It has to be done by an American dealership". So she's been talking about taking the bike back to the US - 100 times - and I answered - 101 times - that is impossible. I won't pay 1500 USD to get some replacement part for a few hundred bucks. It's ridicoulus. I know US laws and regulations and whatever but I feel like I'm stuck and there is just one way to escape, buying a new TPS on my own. I should have bought an MT-01 instead of a Warrior, it wouldn't be the same but at least I would get the recalled parts for free. [/emoticons/emotion-6.gif]
The question is still the same. If anyone has an idea how could I get my right replacement part, do not hesitate to write me!

Thanks in advance,
Elek

Sucks that nobody will take care of you.....Yamaha of Hamilton has the TPS for about 125.00

Here's the part number. 5px-85885-01-00 That might be your only option.

Maybe you should PM rolltideroll he's the Rep at Yamaha of hamilton. Maybe he'll get it for you at cost if you send him your VIN. Just a thought.

i bought my 04 new in the end of 05 and the dealer told me the recall work was already done. well a year later the tps started screwing up and had my bike spitin and sputtering, luckily i was close to home. but that is not what i told the dealer when i took it back. so when i showed him the receipt for transporting the bike back home(thanks to my friend who owns a towing company)for $150 and exsplaining that i needed to be reimbursed due to him lying about the recall work being done of course he said he couldnt which i figured. this is when my eyes turned twards the nice helmet display rack with all the shiney helmets on it and said well that will about equil it, out dont you think? i dont tend to be a fabricator of things but when lied to first i will learn and use it to my benifit. haha so i just wanted to share my recall exsperiense and the helmet i aquired. i thank the jew side of my family for makin me very keen as to how to get money or items of equil value. score 1 for me 0 for dealer

I got my bike in January (05 mindight). The guy said he got the TPS taken care of at his local dealer but with it being winter in the northeast, he didn't get a chance to test that it was really fixed.

Yesterday I took the bike out (46 degree temps) and noticed the bike would die out when comming to a stop. After reading this thread, it appears that the TPS was not fixed. Thankfully I have had the clutch fully engaged each time so I did not have the tire lock up on me.

I want to take the bike to my local dealer to get it fixed but over the winter I have done the coil relocation & some other mods. Has anyone with simillar mods gotten the runaround from a dealer on this because the bike is "modified"?

I have the same problem. I need all 3 recalls for my bike .My bike is completely rebuild and modified so I was worried they will mix up something so I ask the dealer if I can take everything of from the bike and bring him just the frame with wheels and engine. He say it is not problem I will do this next month….

Hold on....First off, It's most likely not the TPS, I would check that your idle isn't too low and that you have the proper amount of freeplay in the clutch cable (it's in your manual). Also, you can call Yamaha with your VIN and they will tell you if the TPS recall was done.

It's probably not a coincidence that the cluthc was pulled in each time it happened, I'm betting on idle and clutch freeplay.

Also, the dealer won't say anything about your mods. They will appreciate the fact that you have a BAK, it's easier to work under the tank.

Hang on, your stripping the bike down just to take it in for the recalls? Am I reading that right? If so, it's completely unnecessary.

Thanks for the feedback, I will have to look into the freeplay in the clutch. The idle is OK because I adjusted it and checked it via PCIII I am at 900-1000rpm. Where can I get a manual from? The bike didn't come with one.

Well that would explain the exact problem I have been having the 05 warrior i just purchased. It has street sweepers on it and thought that could be problem so got a power commander. I just came in today and now I see this. Needed the commander anyways but nice to know that would not of fixed the problem.

My TPS must have gone out last weekend. It is doing exactly as the warning says. It will startup fine and then whenI blip the throttle it will start acting up like it wants to die. I can pop WOT and it will rev, but it doesn't like idle or low RPM. Now if i keep bliping the throttle it will catch sometimes an idle right. As soon as I hit it again, back to poping and loaping.

Spark plugs are black and black smoke is coming out the pipes. All the signs are there. Now just how to get it to the shop.

TPS and CPS and plugs and Oil. Fresh bill o health fo the summer.

Hi everyone.

I'm having these problems with my bike, and I haven't done this recall yet (it is an 06 so it shouldn't need it). I'm planning on getting a new TPS and replace it myself, but I found out the P/N from 06 and 09 are different (and also prices, $160 for 06 and $60 for 09).

My question is, can I use the 09 TPS on my 06 bike?, even if the P/N are different?

Thanks a lot!

I thought I had problems with my TPS.

Mine is an "03" the old part number was 5PX-8588501, superseded with 3P6-8588500.

US price $127.00

UK price ÂŁ150.00 (think yourself lucky) Lol.

I see the 06 is the same,

but 08 changes again to 8GL-8588500. at $46.71.

I would go for the cheap one and give it a try. I nowknow certain Suzuki ones fit and work which are less than half the price.
