The first nut, the one that goes up against the spring Is your preload adjustment so the tighter you adjust that one the stiffer your ride will be, so if you want to really slam your rear down low you will want this tightened down, buy you will be sacrificing some of your ride comfort..... I would run it about half way in, adjust the height on your rear and ride it the way you will be riding it.... If you will ever ride with a passenger get her on it with you and go for a ride... If you bottom it out then put the bike back on the lift and adjust it tighter ... if it is too stiff then loosen it up some.
I will be doing the same myself real soon as I am putting on a progressive spring!

and now think of the experience you have.......next time you do this....maybe to swap out a swing arm or something, you'll do it in less than 1/2 the time......

I have to admit, I have learned a whole lot by doing it for the first time and asking questions....well done!!! be safe out there....watch out for flying trash bags! :):)
