Since the weather has warmed up I have been wearing my half helmet so I am hearing the engine for the first time clearly since I have had the bike. It takes up to 7 minutes for it to run smooth. I have 1500 miles and running 15-40 rottilla shell oil. I would like to know if this is normal or I need to be concerned? Any response would be appreciated.

my bike also takes about 10 to 15 mile to run and even sound right. the exhaust makes all kind of noises for the first few minutes. but then she comes alive. i've found that a lot of the bikes i have had did the same thing i was told it was due to the bike sitting at an angle that the oil runs to one side of the moter leaving the other dry at star up. i could be wrong

Letting the bike sit until it is warm can cause you a bit of trouble in the long run. The best method is to start it, let it come off the fast idle, then ride away, not balls to the wall, just nice and easy. Letting it sit does little but bad for the bike IMHO unless it's reeeally cold out and the oil is at its limit of operation. It's much better to get some pressure on the oil system and in the cylinders/ on the rings. Some of the air/oil-cooled BMWs can get some cylinder glazing from oil slipping by the rings on startup, with owners that do the sit-until-warm proceedure.

Your oil should be fine too, great stuff that Rottilla, it's just a wider range oil. Anyhow...about the only thing I might check is that your oil level is right. If it is, relax and ride.

I usually let the bike warm up for 3 minutes on a 70 degree day. This bike is all aluminum, so its is critical that you let it warm up so all of th eengine gets a chance to expand, other wise your piston and to some degree the head expands before your cylinder does. Do thi senough and you will drop in compresion fast.

If you go to higher compression pistons, th ebike definitely runs noticably hotter. In stop and go traffic, it can get very hot. If you paln on that kind of riding on a regular bases, stay stock. Also always run synthetic motor oil. Mobil One V-Twin is a good oil.

If you live where it is hot, then you may want to get an Oil cooler, Barons makes one for the Roadstar but it will fit this bike. Hope that helps.
