I am using mobile 1 20-50 synthetic and it works fine. I just go by the manual for how often to change it. If you want to spend a little more Amsoil is probably the best.

You can find A LOT on this subject in the forum search. I use the Mobil-1 V-Twin synthetic as well, and change it every 4000 miles.

Plain old Castrol GTX 20w50 every 5k. My beater has 40k on it and doesn't burn a drop. All that high dollar oil is great marketing and nothing more.

use Vtwin mobile 1 and mobile 1 syn 90 in primary. change at 4 to 5000 miles. used mobile in all my bikes japrockets and harleyssince early 90s. better response fuel milage because of the lower parasetic drag the fossil oils produce. and the dyno proves it.

Amsoil 10W40 with Amsoil filter and change every 6000 miles. Runs quiet, smooth as silk, and shifts great.

If you're wanting conventional oil, my favorite is Shell Rotella-T 15W40.

AZwar04 .... just a heads-up, the Warrior primary runs in engine oil underleft cover(crankshaft to clutch basket) .... the secondary reduction ratios run in gear oil (trani output shaft to middle shaft, right side)

Ive heard several people say that when they switch to synthetic oil that the shifting got alot smoother. I switch over to Mobile 1 V-twin full synthetic @ 12K miles and I did notice it got better from 1st to 2nd, but still the same, if not louder, from 3rd up. Is this an immediatechange or does it take some time?

BTW. I bought my oil from Autozone @ $11/quart. Is there places that are cheaper. I wanted to go with Amsoil. I didnt have any time to shop around because I had a long ride to do and had to change it quick. Thanks for the info.

I'm like James. cept even cheaper. Shell Rotella T 15w-40 diesel oil (ran it in every bike I have ever owned ). I ran it in the warrior to 38k HARD miles with no issues , then i sold it to some *** who does not even ride it. If you go to any WERA races, you will find a lot of racers on a budget run it. CB11 runs it in all his bikes too. I think he even runs it in his autos. lawn mowers, he even bathes in it

I've been running M1 V-Twin 20W-50 but the price is unbearable. It's going to get Rotella T 15W-40 next change. Been running it in my other bikes, lawn mowers, tillers, Quads, etc...

yeah, run your bike for a while then check the oil, it has more head than a Guinness stout. yamalube is yama-foam :p. thats why I love the rotella T

Agreed, Yamalube likes to foam.

You guys that are running diesel engine oil in your bikes, can you tell me why? I'm NOT bashing, I just don't understand and would like to know why. I had a customer ask me about the merits of using diesel oils in bikes and I just didn't know of any. Is it a detergent load issue? TBNs are similar, flash point for diesel oils tend to be a little lower than cycle oils and Zinc/Phosphorus levels are definitely a lot lower on the new diesel formulations. Any thoughts?

Has anyone ever seen this "stand pipe" in the oil tank? The manual calls it a "strainer" so my guess is that it is porous and not solid-walled.
You've got your cards mixed up there ..... the strainer is not on the stand pipe..... it is on the suction line ofoil pump 2 and is most likely a small coarse screen located at the fitting of the oil tankIMO

Next time you take a ride remove the oil fill cap immediately upon your return and you'll see the Aeration created by the oil returning thru the stand pipe. The pick-up pump 1 returns the HOT engine oil at a high velocity drenching the upper portion of thealuminum oil tank which aids in cooling & separating the oil IMO!

Anyone who has forgotten to install the oil fill cap can attest to taking a shower in oil

Here are some UOA'sfor Rotella CJ-4 and CI-4+ The Zincand phosphorous are lower in the CJ-4, but still higher than some motorcycle oils. Guys have been using Rotella in bikes for 30+ years. In 1978 the dealer that my '78 suzuki GS1000 came from wrote on the Owners Manual "Use Shell Rotella oil".

There are a huge amount of people running HDEO's in bikes with excellent results and hard data to back it up. Several with 50K - 100K miles on the bikes.

A lot of guys have reached the breaking point on M1 synth due to the recent price increases. M1 V-twin is approximately $10.00 a quart in my area. Thats$50.00 plus a filter.
