Why the HP craze?

Don't get me wrong but why is everyone so worried about #'s. Not just here but top speed which you can never do. 1/4 mile times that nees 4000 rom launches that we never do. More hp more this more that. To me it is how the bike or what ever workd day to day. Lets face it the V-rod makes more power but who really wants to ride it? The R1 is faster but again I would much rather the Warrior for my style.

To me, it's more like an obsesive addiction. My goal was 1)to get as much power out of the stock engine without rebuilding. 2)to make the warrior as comfortable as possible for those long roadtrips. Well i'm pleased to say that i have accomplished both but.... ****, more power is what i want. fortunatly/unfortunatly I've pretty much maxed out all my credit and spare funds so the bigbore kit and heads & cams are going have to wait till someone dies, or i get the bike and plastic paid off, whichever comes first. but ****, would sure like to have more power....LOL

If you weren't into HP, than why did you get a 1700cc bike?

I love my Warrior as much as the next guy, but if it were pure HP I were after, I wouldn't have bought a 1700cc bike that weighs 650 lbs and maybe puts out 80HP stock.

Gotta keep that in mind the next time a sportbike with a waaay smaller engine blows the doors off your Warrior in a straightaway or in the extreme twisties.

Even with mods, you're going to be challenged running against the litre sportbikes, in my opinion. Gotta love the Warrior for what she is!

But you know I look at the Crotch Rocket wars now. Lets face it there is no way you can use 50% of what they put out on the street but people will go futher into debt to buy the next just so they can say their bike is faster. They don't know ho to ride it but he it has more power.
The Warrior is a great bike and sure we all want to mod it but is getting more HP out of it than the chassie can handle worth it? Even Bis has not doen that yet I don't think but again even with all the work Bis has done is he that much faster than the rest of us on a curvey mountain road that you are dragging everything?

The only reason I'd want more is to build the motor up my self. I like to tinker, otherwise this bike is pretty much set out of the box.

JP,

Exactly! I simply like to work on my bike. I don't have the chance to take too many engines apart and work on them. The Warrior is just perfect for it.

I can see hopping up you ride I always have to a point. Usulay to fix a problem or difficency. But I had a Corvette and it was no fun to drive, it had so much grip and potintial that driving it on the road was like being in a tomb. If you took a corner at any speed to be fun if you missed you killed your self.
Now I see folks wanting a faster Busa, or buying the GSXR1000 because it is marginaly faster than a R1 and I don't get it. There is such a thing as to much for the street.

I understand you completely Daimon, my R6 pretty much suits me for top speed and velocity. I'm able to use that HP to get to 90 faster though and that's pretty much where I'm comfortable riding at on most roads with the possibility of traffic and cops. Too fast and I can't slow down quickly enough. Most bikes today, including my measly little R6 are way beyond most riders capacity for street use. When is enough... enough? On a cruiser, lest we forget that's what the Warrior is, it pretty much just for stop light to stoplight accceleration. You can't really sustain speeds over 90 on this bike comfortably, but getting there quicker is most of the fun. Is it really worth several thousand dollars? I don't believe so, because when it's parked it aint any faster than the bike sitting next to it. The tinker factor though is definately worth it from my standpoint. I like to think of as therapy. Making my bike faster will not enlarge my ego as much as it does knowing I had a hand in all aspects of the modification. DIY rules for me, not that there's anything wrong if others can't do these things themselves.

i agree, one of the things (beyond the looks, engine, and price) about this bike that really turned me on, was the hot-rod-ability. i've never owned a bike that has SOO many mods avail, from internal engine mods, to more simple performance mods, and all the other cosmetic stuff. the tinker factor is HUGE on this bike. it allows us each to take the same bike and make it ours. just the looks, and power we want. i just got my warrior and i traded in my CBR954rr. the warr is **** slow compared, but is such a better bike. the CBR had more power than i (or any human) could ever need. for me it wasnt that i could go 144mph, which i did....hehe, but it was the sheer feel of acceleration that would rock your world. twist the throttle and POW, 20mph-90 in seconds. i think it comes down to more is better in alot of peoples minds, and its alot of fun to break out the wrenches, taking pride in making it yours, and gettin these beautiful bikes even MORE capable of smokin Hardly Ablesons!

I liked Frankenstein (ne:computerdude)'s comment about being able to work on this engine. I can't work on most new car engines anymore because of technology. In the early 90's, I bought a new corvette. Within 4 months, I had personally taken the engine down to the crankshaft to have head porting done and to install a supercharger. Did it myself just using the manual. Obviously, voided the **** out of the warranty :^)
Working on the engine was a hugh reward on its own.
MY only decision is Orient bored cylinder or Patrick sleeve cylinder.

The way I look at it there's nothing better than ahaving a cruiser that does a bunch more than cruise. If you can have a bike that is a great all day rider AND can whip a V-Rod or a $45 S&S custom motored bike AND a sportbike stoplight to stoplight, why not? You have to admire sleepers, like the new S600 4 door huge Mercedes that will whip a Corvette in the 1/4. Or a truck like the Lightning, that is a truck but moves around like a sportscar. Or the guy I saw at a car show a few weeks ago with a stock looking 78 Merc Zephyr that made well over 400hp.

If you guys don't think you need more hp....we'll wait for you down the road.

Twisty...do a search on the cylinders on here, I think the choice is pretty clear....well after over 200 sold it should be easier.
