I’m looking to trade a Speedstar cam set for a set of high lift valve springs. Maybe a cash differential, depending. Either Speedstar or Patrick racing, preferably. Do you, by chance, have a spare set?

OK, let me get my brain wrapped around that. They are a used set, but in excellent condition. I guess I’d have to figure out someway to put a price on it. Space, I will take pictures tonight or tomorrow and send them to you.

Bob did you ever get a hold of Nigel?
I haven’t pushed to insist that I speak only with Nigel I’ve spoken with Jami Patrick probably half dozen times over the last 4 months about ordering them, (explained my predicament.) so I was just a little reluctant to try and push past her. Her last estimate is that they might be able to get them late Dec, or next year.

I have tried to appeal to the owner at Orient Express. No luck there.

Although my 110 kit came from Patrick almost 10 years ago, I haven’t had personal contact with Nigel. Suggestions?

I would explain my case and ask to speak with Nigel. I would say my bike is in pieces and has been down for a bit and I need the specs to the valve springs to see if I can source them from another manufacturer plain and simple. He will have those specs which are just a few number like physical size of the spring ID/OD, wire diameter, how many coils, bind height etc.

You would want to individually test tension on all the used springs and compare height and tension at their (a) valve-closed height spec, and at their (b) valve-open (compressed) height spec (see manual) to be sure all are within allowed tolerance for spring pressure when at open and closed valve heights.

Thank you guys, for the suggestions. I’ll call Nigel Tuesday. In the meanwhile, pull and measure the orient express springs. I have some suspicions about those. I remember that the diameter was slightly different than the OEM Yamaha springs, yet used the Yamaha retainers, and the inner springs seemed to fit a bit curvy. That might explain why those springs were so cheap. Maybe they were an off the shelf spring set for a different application, that orient express “thought” would work, but in reality don’t. I hate that sounds accusatory. But, darn, they won’t talk with me about it, or a solution (not asking for free) at all!

So,,,,, a member came through with a new set of Speedstar springs! That cam set went to him. But, stay tuned, I might have a line on another. In the meanwhile, I’m going to measure all the specs I can on the new Speedstar set, my old Orient Express set, and my original nearly new OEM set. Ordered a spring pressure gauge
