Got any pix of the mystery FI control?
If it has flat spots after the recall work that weren't there before , I would suspect the mech is at fault.

 

The flat rpm problem is your clutch spring. We nearly all add the Barnett SR2 clutch spring with gold or red springs. Gold works fine and red are super-stiff so get new cables too. Both work fine and you won't slip your clutch anymore. Have them install new OEM Yami clutch plates if yours are worn. The quicker you do this the cheaper the fix will be.

You can buy it from several on-line sources, shop around or have your mechanic install it if you're not a clutch guy. Its quick less than an hour when you know what to do otherwise it takes all freaking day.

thanks much. i thought it felt like a slipping clutch but wasn't sure. the bike has 12,500 miles. does that sound about when this happens?

 

If it is your clutch slipping, the rpms will climb and your speed wont.

You should know immediatly if it's the clutch slipping.

12K on the clutch is nothin.My clutch has 35k of sometimes hard riding and it don't slip.

Unless your engine is picking up rpm's while your speed stays the same, it's not your clutch. Like doing a burn-out without all the smoke.

 

IMO its either the recall work not done correctly or the fi module. Please get us a pic of the FI module.

 

turns out it's not a fi module, but rather the control unit for the ufo taillights. looks like the bike does not have a fi controller other than the stock ecu. i'm going to take it in for a dyno tune and see what they think. thanks for your help.
