HELP!!! throttle cables problem

Hi guyz,

I have a lil problem with my throttle cables. It's probably common but I need to fix this myself. Depending where I put my cables on the bike, the throttle gets stuck. I mean, if I pass it threw the forks it gets stuck. If I let it loose the throttle comes back. They are brand new. Is it normal? Do I need to lubricate them? Is there something that I can adjust? I installed apes on my warrior so that's why I changed my cables and I don't want my cable to be loose on my warrior like that. I need the good looks on it :)

Yeah, that can be normal. You have to fiddle with them to find a position where they don't bind. I do pass mine through the forks, but I don't have apes either.

Also, it can make a difference when you rotate the throttle grip control box some. If it's forward or back a bit it can change the alignment. So that might help.

Correct, if you lube them the lube will bleed thru and discolor to outer protective cover from the inside. If they are Barnett cables then they are no-lube however Barnett has a lube for certain conditions that doesn't discolor and is used in micro amounts. But your trouble is most likely routing and probably also a problem in the hand grip attachment and/or the spring connection at the motor end.

For sure a big thanks to Leader for clearing that up for me because I keep hearing it both ways and never can get a grip on which is right so I often considered calling Barnett again just to clarify. I remember talking with them about using lube on their coated stainless braid clutch cable, and they talked about the key is to use almost literally one drop from an eyedropper and let it work its way down from the top, and that two or three drops will lubricate for a couple years with no discoloration. If they told me what the lube was I'm afraid I have forgotten.

Generally-speaking and not specific to this thread or this OP's situation, if the Barnett throttle cables are lube-type then there's still a question if lube is actually needed, heck after all these years mine still slip like daffy duck on a banana peel. But if lube is needed, I sorta suspect Barnett uses either a silicone or a clear mineral oil type lubricant and an eye-dropper because on the right materials just 2-3-drops gravity fed from the top will often last years. But its probably best to call and ask Barnett directly.

Thanks again Leader, good catch!

I wonder if Barnett used to make the throttle cables 'no-lube' PTFE too like their clutch cables? Its idle curiosity, I wonder . . . but not too much!
