So after careful cutting, sanding and grinding I am now finished fitting my new 250 rear Avon and new rim into the stock swingarm. It's not in there straight in there in this picture cause it's comin right back out. But wow....!

Sorry I failed to take pics of the process.

Swingarm is now going to get powdercoated black again.
Then I'll fit it all together and move to the 21" front rim.
Whatta yall think?!
Gettin farther away from stock! [/emoticons/emotion-1.gif]

You know you can save yourself a lot of money and still have a nice looking swingarm if you use the right paint (from a spray can no less)

Here are a couple of links:

Haha...don't be scared to ride behind me! Cause your NEVER goinna be in front of me!

The swingarm doesn't actually need alot of modification. I did more cutting on the outside getting rid of tabs and making it smoother. The inside belt tab on the left needed grinding as well as a lil on the front but nothing that would decrease it stucturally or weaken it.
Also had to get new bearings to fit. And a new belt because I'm goin with a lower toother sprocket for better highway rpms.
I'll compensate power later via power commander and Vbak kit.

I'll get a pic up soon of the inside work before it gets paint.
Powdercoating is only costing me $40. I have a sweet hook-up for that.

Oh, yea rims and sprocket from performance edge. Expensive but beautiful!
Can't wait to get em in.
Thanks for all the great forums in here! They've helped alot and givin me the ideas thus far.

it will never work with the stock offset.i had a 250 bms choppers swing arm that my 250 would not fit in because i was using a stock modified rim.called bms and they offset the wheels to the left and use a front pulley spacer.i had to grind the swing arm beyond use to even get the wheel in straight let alone have clearance for the avon to swell when heated.had to break down and buy the 260 arm to fit that avon in there and i have maybe a 1/4 inch on the right side.it will never ever be safe if you do get it to fit and that is why their are no other diy stock swingarms bigger than the 240.trust me this is after months of trying to prove everyone on this site wrong too.

I'm inclined to agree with "needawarrior". When I did my DIY swingarm I used the Dunlop Elite III (240). I didn't need to remove much stock, but the tire is only 9-1/4" wide. The Avon is 10" wide which means you'd need to grind another 3/4" clearance for the tire to fit. Even with my minimal stock removal I had mine welded to insure stability with no stress fractures. Sorry if I have to disagree on the grinding without welding but you're going to be riding a "timebomb".

You said you had a "sweet hook-up" for powdercoating. Well you'd better use it to powdercoat your "butt" cause you're gonna' need it![/emoticons/emotion-2.gif]

Well....haven't gotten pics up yet cause I broke my knee last week while downhill mountain biking. Summers melting away and I'm in a leg cast and crutches. ****.

I have the owner of a local chopper shop doin the work on my swingarm and he's pretty confident on it being just fine with the cutting and sanding thats been done...even with heating up the rear Avon.

I'm goinna head over to the shop this weekend now that I'm off my meds and able to get around a lil bit.

So I'll come back with more info, pics and his side of the argument.
I really appreciate the input because I'm new to this one!
I spoke to BMS and they had said the same thing about the swingarm. The one they sell offset the rear tire and shammed the front drive pulley to line it all up. Otherwise goin with a 260 arm was their recommendation. Thats a grand though. I figured I might as well TRY this mod 1st and have it inspected by a few shops once completed for MY safety! Have a good buddy at Hardley that'll inspect.

Powdercoat for my bum eh? Thats now a bad idea! I'll get my legs, shoulders and elbows done while I'm at it. Then I can go faster! [/emoticons/emotion-2.gif]

someone that does not have any experience with the warrior swingarm has no experience in this subject, remember its alot easier to say that should be fine if you dont have to ride it every day and its not your life on the line.trust everyone on here if their was a way it would have already been done.call the venders on this site and ask them about all the mistakes they made in the early days of this mod.if they could do it easier and cheaper they would because they would sell 100 times faster......JMO not trying to discourage you from trying but be careful who you have play with your swingarm or you could ruin the core you will need to buy your 260 arm.hope you heal up fast so tou can start riding again.

I haven't tired to do this yet but I have good clearance for my 240 that I did a while ago.
Although you may be able to "get away with" no welding I thought the outcome would be more reliable and cleaner looking.
