Blueblood....do you have the manual? you can get it here....(courtesy of robriquez)
Road Star Warrior Documents

There are quite a bit of troubleshooting diags and you already sound comfortable with the screen. I have not touched the diags on this bike and I have had it for 7 years, I should be a little more aware....lmao

I don't think your sensors are bad either but here is a place to get OEM for only 142.00
5JW-82380-00-00 SENSOR, PRESSURE $142.08

Blitz.....I did not see you had the CPS recall done and your problem sounds like it....????
No recalls on the bike, already checked w/ the dealer, only recall that comes up for my year and vin# is the pickup coil.. Which ill have checked as soon as I can ride it further than a street block..

LD, great minds think alike. I started think about the LCV when I noticed the problem didn't show up until the bike was warm.

I've completely removed the LCV as many on this forum have done. I've started thinking about reinstalling it to see where that takes me. That'll be my next step. If that doesn't do it, I'm probably going to have to bite the bullet and let someone smarter (and more expensive) than me look at it. My concern is that any mechanic around here won't be familiar with the Warrior and its common mods.

That includes the stealership in town. They aren't too bright...

Lucky you Blitz! Get that bad boy up to the shop and let them crack it open at no cost to you. You may consider adding that Roadstar 5th gear. I totally would've done that if my recalls hadn't already been done.

We have a winner....pickup coil = CPS = sh*tty running just like yours is doing.....get it changed sir...

BlueBlood, did you remove the pipe? (parts 23 and 26 in the picture)

It sounded like you left them on and capped them, I could be wrong....If you did, I would move over to what the rest of us have done (make or buy plates to cover the opening at the cylinder..I used the gaskets already there (24 and 27) and made simple plates to fit. Below this picture is a link to the Barons kit for ~25 bucks....

Let us know if you have plates or the pipe capped....you have an elusive problem so we have to be as thorough as we can. Doubt that would cause a problem but...............

Blitz.....the recall includes oil if I remember correctly....some stealerships don't like that info out there.....be sure but hold them to it if it does. New gasket for the side cover too.....

So you mean to tell me that the CPS might have gone to sh!t at the same exact time I was doing my winter mods and I have been circling around an non existing issue other than a factory fvck-up? Ain't that a B!tch!!

By the way, sorry for the Hijack blueblood..

No pipes. I followed the AIS instructions to the T. That was done over a year ago, and no problems since. The most recent motor changes include VBAK, Dyna coils (and relocate), plugs, and LCV delete. Everything else was cosmetic.

Something in one of those things is the culprit. Or, something happened to sh!t the bed at an unfortunate and coincidental time.

Blitz, no worries brother. I'm not worried about a "hijack" at all. Makes more sense to me than creating a whole other thread and guys have to respond twice. I'm glad at least one of us has seemed to narrow it down.

Of course, I would have preferred it been me that did.... LOL

Yeah...I think so......it shows at certain rpm's and can often be 'walked' thru until it breaks completely, then no start at all.

It is very easy to change, I did mine myself. I had to buy it but I don't like anyone opening my motor...EVER...lmao

If you did winter mods, then you can do this too....

Blueblood....you are a good guy about the hijacking part...lol...

Now to get yours fixed......give us a bit of time before you give in. There are some great minds out here and then more we talk about it, the better chances someone can kick down the right answer....

We always win, just a matter of when....

I know it has been suggested but maybe you can back the dyna coils out and go back to stock for a test, not sure the way you have all mounted so that might not be very easy to do.

TPS was talked about too. There was a recall for it and you have a 2002. Was this replaced? I assume it was but......the 2002 had the only recall that allowed replacing parts like gears, pistons and such since they had to crack the cases....but I assume those have been done but you should check. If they have not been done, you have a new motor on the way anyway (well rebuilt...lol)

I ask because my friend has over 30k miles on his 2002 and has not had the recalls done....sweet.....

Does the Fuelpak allow for setting 0 and max throttle positions like the Power Commander does. We have seen problems with that but I am not familiar with the V&H fuelpak....?

My dad retired from the force after 30 some years, I hold you guys at the same echelon as soldiers. Thank you so much for choosing this as a career, we need you guys...

I guess my dad would have been BlueBlood286 if I am guessing your numbering right....lol

I appreciate the support for both cops and soldiers, my friend (I've had the honor of donning both uniforms, in this country and many others).

Usually, nobody likes the police until they need them. Well, the people I deal with regularly anyway. Those that like and support us rarely have to deal with us, unless they've been vicitmized by one of the many mopes of the world. I take pride in dealing with sh!theads regularly, so others don't have to. LOL!

And you are guessing right about the numbering. My DSN (badge number) is 1568.

Those that want to be cops usually make the best ones. I always remembered growing up with my dad. He would leave for work and he honestly might not come back. Fortunately that never happened.

Always felt it was our jobs to be good citizens and that meant respecting the system. It is as simple a concept as wearing a white shirt and tie to ANY court date

Thanks again and your bike will be right soon enough....

Be careful, remember that car you drive partly belongs to me......lol...my dad's badge number has always been very very special to me, I am sure it is in your family too......

1. Can't go back to the stock coils, but all four plugs have spark, and the diagnostic checks show good for both coils.

2. Per the local dealership, who checked my VIN, all of the recalls have been done (unfortunately).

3. The FuelPak does allow for setting the throttle positions, and this has been done.

Additionally, I re-installed the LCV. The problem still persists after the engine is warmed up.

I'm considering overfilling the gas tank and "accidentally" dropping a match. Perhaps some C-4... Insurance fraud is no big deal, right?

Seriously though, I could really use some help. I'm out of ideas, and I'm begging!

A far fetched try here...

Have you checked your oil level lately and do you check it 'properly' (see link in my sig)

We have had issues with too much oil (sh*tty running and such) but it also usually shows as some spewing from the top of the rear cylinder.

Have the fuel injectors ever been cleaned? They only cost about 20 a piece to have done.

Have you ever used Sea Foam? Great stuff and could alleviate needing to clean the injectors (not really, cleaning and replacing filters in injectors is surely the best way to freshen them up and again, all for about 20 bucks each) I used Witch Performance.

There are a couple of Hail Mary's but best to rule out as much as possible....

Re-reading everything.... I'm drawn back to one thing.

It only happens once warm...

Makes me think it's something which with heat is expanding and causing a very slight vacuum leak that allows the surge. ... see my reasoning here?

I'd say double check the AIS blockoff bolts and gaskets, then check the T/B's against the head. Also make sure that the Vbak downtubes are sealed up and lined up correctly.

.. it's got to be something simple!! Cuz you know how these things are... it's always sumthin that makes you smack your head and say "Dooohhhh!!!"

I've had my share of those, believe me!!

Take break, a good nights sleep, then come back to it and re-check stuff.. I bet it gets found!!! ;)

Good luck brother!!

I would have to think it is fuel related considering that it runs fine until it comes off the warm up cycle. If it was electrical like coils or something it would run bad immediately, not after it warms up, unless a coil is failing after it gets hot, but i don't think that is it. I think the temp sensor has the bike running on an enriched fuel mixture until it warms up, then the enrichment is removed and this is when the problems start. Mine does something similar, it runs great until it warms up then i have slight hesitation when i take off in 1st gear. Been like this since i did a bunch of mods and i haven't found the problem yet.

I have noticed the neutral light illuminating at odd times, but I can't say I've seen it during the surging. I'm more concentrated on the tach. What's your thinking with the light?
It's worth your while to remove the battery inspect and rule out the FI & Start circuit Relay Unit in the rack for poor connections, shorting, deterioration or corrosion on your '02'.
While in there apply some dielectric grease to the connections to prevent any future occurence and also inspect your neutral switch wiring under seat and at the switch for a ground to the cover.
