Perfect PCIII install

This install covers ALL years of Warriors to date.

If your Warrior cuts out, has dead spots, a wacky throttle response off idle or a dyno tuner that goes nuts trying to get you a good custom map follow these instructions. It will fix 99% of these issues unless you have a broken CPS.

Many people have experienced that the PCIII setup as described in its manual is not perfect. The TPS read out in particular is a problem. Instead of a steady TPS signal the PCIII (regular and USB) jumps around pretty wild. This causes not only shops to do custom maps to take a lot longer to get it right but can also lead to less than perfect throttle response of your Warrior.

The solution is very simple and is highly recommended for EVERY Warrior PCIII owner.

IMPORTANT: When looking for the right wires please make sure that the first color is the base color and the second on is the strip on it. So black/blue for example is a black wire with a blue strip.

Start with the gray PCIII TPS hookup wire: Pull it back through the insulation to have it come out pretty close of the PCIII. Depending on where you install the PCIII you only need a few inches of gray wire. Check first before you cut it too short.
Now locate the solid yellow wire that runs into the ECU. Be aware that there are several wires that have a least part yellow marking on them. There is only one solid yellow wire (it might have some gold markers on it as all the wires).
Cut that wire, take the insulation off both ends, twist the gray wire around one of those ends, push a piece of shrink tubing over the other yellow end and solder the connection back together. Last but not least push the shrink tubing back over the solder joint and heat shrink it.
The second connection that is even more important is the PCIII digital ground. The Warrior uses a digital ground wire for all its sensors to reduce noise. The PCIII comes with a digital ground wire but unfortunately as it is sold it is connected to regular ground. When you pull back the insulation of the PCIII ground wire you will find two wires ending at the ground connector: One is black (regular ground) and the other one is black/white (digital ground). Cut the black/white wire and pull it back to the same exit you used to run the gray wire. The black/white wire will need to be approximately the same length as the gray wire. Now find the black/blue wire that runs into the ECU. There is only one.
Do the same thing as before but now splice the black/white (PCIII) wire into the black/blue (ECU) wire and heat shrink the solder joint.
Install the PCIII in its final location and you are done.

Now when you hookup a laptop of dyno computer to the PCIII the TPS signal on a running Warrior should be rock steady and the bike should run cleaner and very crisp. If not you might adjust the map you are currently running.

Hope this helps!

Yes, you can get rid of the connector and solder right at the TPS. The only reason to pull it back is because of other solder joints necessary - those are all near the ECU. Plus - in theory the shorter the connections the less noise on the signal - which is what you are shooting for. All in all, it should not make much of a difference.

Good luck with it!

Thanks, I did the install last night. Of course, just my luck I read your post after I had already completed it. I went ahead and soldered the gray wire right to the yellow wire right at the TPS. Sounds like it should be okay anyways. I'm getting it dyno'd and mapped at a Dyno-Jetcertified center on Monday.

Should be fun!

Thanks Again

Oliver and others, I'm about to do the PCIII install and I am having a bit of difficulty figuring out what exactly is supposed to happen. I have a new PCIII with only one ground wire coming out of the harness and after strippiing the insulation back to the box itself, there is no digital ground wire spliced in that I can see, and I can't seem to get an Image Shack image posted to this message. I'm wondering just where the wire is supposed to be cut and spliced into the TPS (gray)wire? At the harness near the PC3, near the TPS plug before it goes into the plug, does the plug itself get cut out altogether? I've had a look thru Red Horses' site for the install and it looks like he takes out the whole TPS plug...is this true? I don't want to go chopping something that shouldn't be chopped or removing a plug that I need....

SuicideD_45,

The black & blue wire for the digital ground is located on the wire harness for the ECU...

The yellow wire on the wire harness of the ECU is the TPS wire...That's the wire you hook the grey wire from the Power Commander too...

Here's the link to Red Horse's Power Commander Install. It's really quite simple once you get started...Good Luck!

NOTE: because Redhorse gave me permission some years ago to archive his instructions to a pdf file, it seems acceptable to insert that link into this thread since he's not so active these days. The pdf file of his instructions is attached to the post here: http://www.rswarrior.com/forums/92-documentation/180235-warrior-fuel-managers.html#post2305647 [ArizonaWarrior]

Dynojet has made the corrections brought forward by the Perfect Install so the newest version does not require Perfect Install.

Good job Woody and Oliver and everyone else involved!

I finally did the "Perfect PC111" install today. I've followed the directions and did all the wiring correctly. But i'm having problems understanding the procedure with resetting the TPS etc. Can any one explain in detail the steps on this? A step by step break down on how to reset the min and max TPS values inside the PC111 software etc. The 0% with the engine idling and the 100% for WOT. etc. I'm some what confused and not sure if i did it correctly. Basically the whole procedure using the Power Commander software and resetting the map. If someone who has done this correctly could you please explain it to me. I'm not the brightest when it comes to this part. Much appreciation, Thanks !

First, I don't think this can be donefrom your computer with the PC3 disconnected and on battery-pack. You need to have your computer connected directly to your PC3 and your PC3 installed on your bike. That being said, the process is so simple that it sounds hard, so DynoJet put an on-line learning file on its website. There's a link to it in the Popular Mods topic (and there's a link to Popular Mods in my signature picture below). Look under ECU in Popular Mods.

Also you can go to: http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander_iii_usb/powercommander_general_downloads.aspx

See Item #10 and click on it for the tutorial. Its a one minute adjustment. I might sound like a broken record but read everything and also make sure before youset zero% or 100%that:

[*]All 4 spark plugs are clean and gapped.
[*]Air filter(s) are clean.
[*]WARM idle is set to 850~950 rpm preferably using the PC3 software for ease.[/list]

BTW you seldom need to set 100% throttle. The materials will explain why, and when.

I did have the pc111 connected (hard wired in) to the bike and the computer connected to the pc111. I just didn't understand the procedure when hooked up to the computer and opening the dyno jet software. I wasn't exactly sure how to adjust it. Thanks Arizona Warrior for the link on the tutorials.

This install step by step left my head swimming. After reading it several times I wouldn't trust myself to do it. My PCIII is not connected now 'cause it didn't seem to change anything. I have all the problems noted and when I hooked it up as per the boxed instructions, adjusting it had no effect. Still bucks, jumps, and pops even after the block off's were installed. Seems worse after the recall was done for the sensor pick-up at the local dealer last year. Don't see how this could affect anything. Anyway, does anyone have pics of the steps to install the PCIII perfectly? Thanks for your time...Whitemouse.

Just wanted to give my feedback on this mod. Prior to doing this my TPS position in the pciii software showed peaks of +25 to -19 at idle! Something was definitely not getting a good signal. I cut the crappy plastic tps connector off and soldered the damage to the tps wire and soldered the other two wires to the ecu. After doing this the pciii software at idle shows 0, even after multiple restarts, blipping the throttle, and unhooking the power commander from the computer and restarting the software it shows zero. Total win!

Been checking this site out for 4 yrs a member for one and just found this thread. Pc3 was already on my bike when i got it so i checked it and it was not hooked up this way just got back from a test ride affter i did this mod and all i can say is helll fuckin yea! iv'e got a new bike. no more surging at 2k rpm no more dead spot in 3rd WOT and all around running very good now. just two little wires:rolleyes: just wish i'd found it sooner 06 thread think he's gone now but thanks anyway Oliver that's one smart dude.
