Laying out a basic schedule to ride to the start of Route 66 in California this Friday April 25, 2025. Hoping to have the bike ready by then, but work keeps on needing fixed. Starting at my home in Denver to spend the weekend riding the scenic route to Southern Colorado through to Monument Valley and Zion National Park, and then Joshua Tree to Dana Point. Hangout for the week in the Los Angeles area, while my in-laws fly in the next weekend. Pickup rentals for them and start out Sunday or Monday May4-5 to Las Vegas. Spend three leisure days riding and being tourist, before plopping down in LV for a few days. Ditch the in-laws (and return the rentals) and ride to Albuquerque May 9 in three days. Holdup in ABQ for the weekend before riding home.

Anyone is welcome to join in for all or part. And offers for places to stay are welcome!

I REALLY wish I could! Too many parental duties and my wife is traveling.

You’re right about the twisties north of Pasadena. That’s Angeles Crest. There are also some beautiful roads in the Santa Monica mountains just north of Malibu.

There are a bunch more but didn’t realize you were coming up this way.

We watched Easy Rider (1969) and saw a place called the pine breeze inn at Bellemont Az on 66, maybe 40? just outside of flagstaff. In the movie, the 2 main charactors on bikes pull up to the small motel, neon light saying vacancy. The owner comes out, goes back in, shuts off the vacancy sign. Now a biker haven. Maybe you will pass it, a bit of history.

Experiencing a power glitch while cruising around 70. Bike looses power for about 1-2secs and comes back. Not sure if I’m going to make it the rest of this trip. Any ideas what’s going wrong here? I’ll keep trying to get to LV where I’ll be for two days. Hope to figure it out.

The ground on the bike is a short 4” wire to a bolt next to the oil cap. The other ground has a connector and I didn’t follow it to completion. So I hope it’s good. Pull the Christmas tree of relays and wires and battery out to inspect what I could. Every thing seemed ok.
Moved on to pull the Lean Angle Sensor (LAS) behind the kick stand horn. I’ve pulled this apart before due to the bike dying when put into gear on a stand. <- that was totally a kickstand being in the down position goof! I siliconed the pendulum at the pivots in a NAPA parking lot and rode it to the hotel garage. Waited an hour or so and took it out for a run down I-15 to test. Never cut out at 80+ and held 75 for a while without issues. Hopefully this fixes it!!!

Made it to LV. Seems to occur at 75mph after 2mins or for sure if I hit 80mph. Dash still has power. No extra blinking lights. So I guess that means no codes. It did rain hard last night and the bike was out in it. It’s really needs a wash. A corroded ground or other wiring due to rain would make sense.

Ok, TPS has a white dot, 271x17 on it. CPS wires look good from the outside. (No white dot on the gasket. I'll have to check the recall -- Edited After read the suggest threads) Likely I have fault ground or a faulty connector, LAS tripping my fuel pump. Guess work without trying anything is all shots in the dark. Hoping I can phone a friend for a space to work on it and not the parking garage of the hotel.

Well, SHOT ME NOW! Here I was thinking I already check this.
Yamaha Consumer Publications
I have TWO recalls not completed, or at least reported as not completed. I'll have to search each one to verify myself. I really hope my problem is not the TPS replacement recall acting up now that I'm 40,000 miles into riding this bike and 1000 miles from home.

No issues all the way to Kingman at 75+. I’m going with this engine cut out issue was all about the LAS tripping the fuel pump. Even with a full tank of gas and 90F cruising down the road wasn’t part of the problem. Or maybe she wasn’t happy with all the highways of dirt and corrosion and need the bath before I started tinkering with anything.

Made it safely to Albuquerque the end of my Route 66 run. Now for a week off in a vacation adobe house for some R&R and WFH stuff. Rallying from Flagstaff to ABQ was a long stretch, but a days rest before strapping myself to a chair and keyboard is needed.

Winslow, AZ for the infamous “standing on a corner” Eagles lyric. Complete with THE flat bed Ford.

A cruise moment off the interstate through Joseph City.

Gallop, NM was much until I found the sign at the end of town (East) that told me everything I missed out on.

another Route 66 America diner for yet another hamburger and root beer float. I think I’m good on that combination for a while.

A rare find I almost blew pass in Grant, NM. Turned around for a quick photo op.

a true Route 66 place to fill the tank up.

my last shot of the fading light with the moon rising and the interstate in the background while I ride the unused open road on The Historic Route 66. Good bye it’s been fun.
