Spring, how stiff?

Dave (dt) were discussing the virtues and drawbacks of various spring rates. So, I'll throw this question out there:

What factors are involved with selecting a spring? Weight of the bike (wet), rider, potential passengers and gear, and style all come in to play. What other factors should be considered before selecting a springrate?

So you're saying to upgrade the shock and spring at the same time, if necessary, to get the best of not bottom out and the reliability and useability of the shock together?

I've owned Works and Ohlin shocks on my quads and dirtbikes for years, they both make excellent products (like landing on a pillow from 15'[/emoticons/emotion-1.gif]). I'll see what they have to say... and post the answers, thanks.
