DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING BUT THE BEST, LISTEN UP, SIMPLY THEY GOT THIER CASH IN FULL ONE WAY OR ANOTHER ON THESE BIKES AND LEFT US WITH THE PAIN AND SUFFERING.

I HAVE NOT STRESSED THIS DIRECTION OF A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT SO (YAM) THEY CAN KINDLY SPEED UP THE PROCESS OF BAND AIDING OUR BIKES AND OPEN UP THE ENGINE OUR ENGINES SO IT IS NO LONGER VIRGIN. IT IS GOING TO BE LIKE BACKYARD MADE UP BIKE. I SPENT A **** OF A LOT OF MONEY ON BIKE TO GARAGE IT CLEAN IT AND MAINTAIN IT IN A MINT CONDITION, TO THEM IT IS STILL PROFITABLE TO THROUGH IN COUPLE ON NEW PIECES AND HAVE US MOVE ON AND LIVE WITH IT. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, PAID FOR THE QUALITY MARCHENDISE IN FULL (BANK LOAN) AND I EXCPECT TO GET WHAT I HAVE PAID FOR NOTHING LESS. NOTHING LESS THAN A NEW ENGINE OR TAKE THEIR BIKE BACK. BIKES UNLIKE CARS. LET US CREATE A SECTION WHERE EVERY BODY PUT THEIR VIN# AND NAMES SO WE CAN COLLECT IT AND I'M SURE THERE IS SOMEBODY HERE WHO IS A LAWYER THAT CAN HELP US. I WILL MAKE ALL MY CONTACTS TOMORROW TO SEE WHAT IS THE NEXT RIGHT THING TO DO. LET US GET ORGANIZED SO WE CAN EARN SOME RESPECT AND HAVE YAM TAKE US SERIOUSLY. DO NOT BE A WHOOS.
LETS PURSUE THIS RIGHT. IF IT WAS A TANK OR A SUPERFICIAL DEAL IT WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM BUT THIS IS A CORE PROBLEM THAT HAS TO DO WITH YAMAHAS REPUTATION THAT THEY PAY TOP DOLLARS TO SUPPORT. CAN WE GET STARTED CARKNEE PLEASE SUPPORT THIS MOVE BECAUSE NOT ALL PEOPLE AROUND HERE ARE SITTING ON PILES OF DOGH. I KNEW PEOPLE WHO SOLD THEIR HOUSE ITEMS SO THEY CAN GET AND OWN THIS BIKE. I CARE ABOUT THOSE PEOPLE. I TRAVELLED ABOUT 100 MILES TO GET MY BIKE I DID ALOT OF THINGS TO OWN THIS BIKE MY SELF, SO DO NOT F**K WITH MY WARRIOR. I AM NOT ASKING FOR MUCH. Well this past weekend I went to the only authorized Yamaha dealer and ask the service manager what to do first. Install the OE NOS KIT or wait for the recall. He told me wait for the recall first and he proceed to order the kit for my bike. Hope this take 2-3 weeks and then two days for the job. He didn't tell me not to ride the bike because that's not practical." Wait for the parts to arrive and we will call you". OK! "Hayabusas you have to wait too". Good Luck!

Not all dealers are going to do upgrades.

Case in point. Lawrenceville Honda/Yamaha told me today, per the owner, that they were doing the recalls and each one was expected to take 2-3 days. They WOULD NOT make any performance upgrades whatsoever, not OE, not PR, not even Speedstar.

So, many Warrior owners may be "stuck" with a stock rebuild. This recall is not fair to us. Period.

I agree, with all who are distressed. I will fully hop onboard with a mass law suit against Yamaha. We have spent between 12 and 14K on our rides for a new motor, now we will have a rebuilt motor with only a 90 day warranty that will make the bike depreciate. Also, we are all still paying insurance and monthly payments for a bike we are not supposed to ride while Yamaha takes their time with shipping out parts. I want a new factory engine as I'm sure all of us do. I think we should fight for it! None of us payed for a rebuilt motor and now our warranties are void!

I just got off the phone with the Yamaha customer service folks. They stated the parts for the vx16's (RS) would be in the yamaha warehouse by the end of the month. They would then be shipped 2 at a time to the dealers. When I asked about the vx17 (RSW), she stated that it would be another couple of weeks after that, but that there is no certain date as of yet. I asked about how the bike is supposed to get to the dealer if we weren't allowed to ride the bike. She stated I should probably trailer it or have it towed. I asked if I have it towed, who is paying for this, again, it is the responsibility of the owner was the reply.

Ok so for my rant....I hate this feeling of helplessness in getting this problem fixed timely. It pisses me off. I'm sure everyone is feeling the same. But writing about it seems to ease the anger. I'm not about to have some tow truck driver lift my pristine bike to a shop and screw it all up. Secondly, I do have a trailer, but what about the folks that don't. The sport is inherently dangerous. We don't need crap like this. I have owned yamaha's since 1977 and always had the best of customer service. Currently, I have 6 yamaha's in my garage. After this crap, I'm seriously thinking about changing brands. I didn't buy a harley because of their reputation for having crap like this happen. But they still have the customer service. I would do anything to push Yamaha to get this thing going. I know I'm whining but I must. Other than a lawsuit and calling repeatedly what's left to do?

I've been reading these posts a bit and figured you guys to
have frozen brains up there in the north to get so worked up. Not so, I am getting fired up now after finding me dealer to say that
he is getting kits (2) at a time and that because of all of the
bikes ahead of me (131) it may be untill August 2004 for me to get this **** thing done. per his words 'Oh yeah it's a big mess.' Now the only part that is completely jacked up is Yama expects me to not ride me motto until August whilst paying on insurance and the like. It's not anyone here with frozen brains... it's Yama. All respect to our lawyer warrior here, but personally I have no desire to add a lawyer to any aspect of my life. Nor do I expect Yama to replace me engine with a new one (it would be nice)but supply side economics won't allow it. I will thread through these posts and get on with the complaints to Yama for the moment and support forcing action from Yama this way. Sorry for the folks that think this is impacting their potential 'free' labor on upgrades but the $450 or so is worth a lot less to me than missing a sunny riding season (I do it; but am tired of the rain and cold riding the last months) and a rebuilt engine by a wrencher no matter how talented that man turning the wrench may be.
I didn't buy a motto to look at and I certainly didn't buy a lax-a-dais-i-cal attitude about mine or me woman's safety whilst riding these last months (I still have not received notification of the recall, though me dealer has me VIN on his books).

SpearWarrior, good point made about the dealers and techs getting shafted. My wrench feels just that way. But I am one of the lucky ones I guess, him, the owner, and the techs are not going to let that stand in the way of fixing our bikes, and fixing them right, then backing them with a 90 day warranty of their own even if the company wont. Regardless, it will still be a rebuilt engine when its done and that sucks!!!

Has anyone else had problems with getting the problem fixed in a timely manner?

I called the dealer I purchased my bike from and they told me that the parts kit is still on backorder!

Riding season is upon us soon.

How can we get this fixed quicker?

I asked my dealer if I could get a trade in on my RSW for a new FZ-1...Wouldn't take the bike because he couldn't sell it until the recall work was complete. He was glad to sell me a new FZ-1 and talk to me about a trade after the recall. Sure. No problem.

Why yes, yes I am an attorney, but I can tell you that my life would be a lot less stressful if I could simply say "You want chili with that burger?" instead.
I like my dealer. (My Yamaha dealer, that is.) Can't blame him, and I find blame for a living. Sure, it's a reduction in value, but temporary. I hear the market will pick up one day when those funky little circlips get delivered.
All sh*t aside, I kinda like those Bumblebee yellow/black FZ-1's. I don't think I'd give up my Warrior for it though. That's a problem I have. I can't find happiness in any one bike. I need a selection. I guess it's a guy thing. Whadda ya think?[/emoticons/emotion-2.gif]

Thanks, Bruno90210. The reason I mentioned the loss of value thing is, the value of our motorcycles may not be why we purchased them (in that we bought them for enjoyment, not as an investment). However, there is an expectation of value staying at some level, even after purchase. One of my contentions is that the Recall Rebuild causes an irreparable loss in that value, never to be regained.

As an attorney, do you have a professional opinion of this assertion?

An interesting bit of info from the msn.com road star club

Members,

Here's the complete parts list to be used on your bike for the new Tranny Recall! Please focus on the piston ring set and oil with new oil filter! We have heard reports in the last recall that some dealers have used the old oil and not changed the filter, and have not replaced the piston rings! Anytime the top end is removed the "rings must be replaced"! Don't be fooled, insist on all parts in the kit be used, mark your oil filter and check it and the oil to be sure that it has been changed! Also keep in mine that in the last recall the Oil drive gear shaft was replaced because the oil pump was breaking the end off the shaft, have this replaced, even if the dealer refuses to do it, at your own cost if need be! If need be, copy this parts list and show it to your dealer if you have problems with any parts not being replaced. Remember:"rings must be replaced and Oil and filter"! make sure your dealer is useing all parts in the kit!

Turns out that from the date of the NHTSA recall, 22AUG2003; perhaps the clock does not start at that point. There is some sort of negotiating process that the NHTSA and the named manufacturer engage in prior to corrective action beginning or required. That negotiating process eats up some amount of time.
