I have an Avon Storm-ST AV56 200/50 ZR 17 TL 75(W) on my bike and I'm happy with that. Good grip!

Anyone know how this tire is different from the Storm 2 Utlra?
- ditto ...the bridgestone 020 is coming ot...or has now come to.. an end in the uk!!... and we are swopping to the av56 - ÂŁ142 fitted here in the uk....stew just had his blow out changed over on the hurry up...and jools went the far side of europe and back successfully on his av56's last year.....but what do we know of this new tyre?? ...does it forsake grip for mileage?...here grip isking we don't do anything like the long runs you guys do...the bridgestone 021..that replaces the 020..has not got good press in the uk....hence me moving towards the av56....have to do some homework on price and reliability...cheers Mike

I never liked the Bridgestone under my bike (found the grip horrible) and switched to the Avon as advised by one of the members. Never regretted that decision for one single second, grip and handling are awesome! I had some long runs from The Netherlands to Spain and France and it's still going strong

I snuck out the other day when it was not raining and ran up the gorge a few miles then across the west face of Mt Hood and up to a little town, then back home around the other side (a big loop). The route has a series of ultra-tight pin-curves that literally bend back on themselves. The pavement was still wet, some moss, and tree debris. But the AV56 Avon out back held the road just fine. The front tire is a 404 dunny that is now at 2/32" tread and it wanted to slip-out on the corners. Not so good. I've known for awhile thatI need a new front tire so I'll try one of the Ultra's up-front.

Its tire-season . . . I have to get sets for the other two bikes also. We have riding plans this summer hehe.

If you get the Ultra let us know what you think if you get chance to take your bike for a spin.

I got a new Avon AV56 rear laying around waiting to get installed, but I guess I'll be needing a new fron tire as well soon.

For those of you that are Avon Storm tirefans i suggest you pick-up the April 2010 issue of Sport Rider magazine. There is a product review on this new Ultra tire that is probably destined to replace it's predecessor, the Storm-ST

This is a slightly aged post but its time for a tire and I'm decided on the storm but I'm wondering about the storm 2. . .

Anyone reach a conclusion as to this tire being better or worse than the Storm-ST ?

I've unfortunatley gone about 6 thousand miles on two dunlop rears. I was getting ready to take a trip and found a nail in mine original tire but didnt have time to order anything so I just let the stealership put a factory one on the bike, Got 1200 out of the first tire and now just finished this one at around 4800. **** thing blew chunks right outta the middle of the tire. Showing chords.

Just trying to decide which tire to order and quick. It's riding season man!

thanks

Has anyone bought these yet, or read anything about them?

Hey Mike, howz it going ? I got back and front Storm 2 Ultras fitted 12th June, ready for Germany....Had aBridgestone 020 on the back with no complaints so I'll keep that for a spare.I went to the Farmyard Party in Yorkshire (540 miles round trip) on the 18th and the Storm 2'sseemed to do just fine. I'll keep a note of the mileage as well for you.

As you know, I had Metz front and 210 rear when the bike went on the road, back in 2008. I got exactly 3000 miles out of the rear, the front Metz,I got 6266 miles and itwas goosed. The 020 has 3266 mileson it and still looks like new.

Those are the correct sizes, I got mine at Motorcycle Superstore online, not sure if this is the best price or not.. was the best I could find at the time. I have been very happy with them so far, several hundred miles now.

**** it's nice to have friends in high places. . . or well at least in bike delerships. haha

Anytime I call the parts desk at the local dealership I ask for a girl named megan. She always takes good care of me. Well she was off last tuesday when I called so I end up getting a price quote of $240 for the rear and wouldn't be installed till next week. I wanted to take a little trip this weekend so that wasnt acceptable. So i call back on wednesday and talk to megan She gets it for me for $190 AND sets it up so that when the tire showed up on Friday around noon, they cut it outta the box and installed it right then and there. Had it done before I got off work.

I put around 400 hundered miles on it right after leaving the shop. Great feeling tire, no sign of wear yet(better not be!) Now I need a new front. Thanks for the advice guys. Great tire!

I just finished a 3200 mile trip on my new Storm 2 Ultra's. Granted the main purpose of the trip was to visit friends so we did a lot of freeway riding. We did spend a couple of hours running through some twisties south of Austin. The tires handled well. (2 Warriors, 2 Raiders, and a Harley to slow us down...that's a story for a different day).

Mostly, I want to report on their wet handling. Coming home we hit some rain, we rode about 300 miles in and out of storms. I was impressed. No slippage, no hydroplaning. Even coming off the freeway when the visibility went to ****, there was standing water on the road and several puddles to go through to get to cover--no issues at all.

If you're crazy enough to be riding in weather where even the cagers are asking if they should have gotten out of bed, these are the tires you want under you. --SK

Longevity update: It's now April 2012 and I'm getting ready to replace these Storms. 21 months, 13000 miles. They're not even completely worn out - I've got cupping on the front and the wear bars are showing, but no cords or bare spots. You bet I'm putting on another set!

I just installed the same tires except i went with a 190mm for the rear. Money's tight and the 190 was a little cheaper. I installed the tires my self but am waiting on Dyna Beads to show up tomorrow so i can balance them. I had the regular storms before and thought they were a great tire. These should be even better.

have about 1k miles on the new storm 2 rear. Work GREAT! And speaking of being caught in storms. . . I don't know if there's anyone on here from around the Lancaster area but last sunday I was leaving Lancaster around 1pmvia Rt30 to harrisburg. . . The next thirty minutes were insane. The wind hit me so hard a couple times that I ended up hitting the rumble strip on the side of the highway. Not to mention a visability of nomore than ten feet in front of my face due to torrential downpours and dime size hail. lol Fun times. The were more cars pulled onto the burm than there were on the road and there I go on the motorcycle in jeans and a jacket. But what I'm getting to is that even in all that and with a tread-less front tire that storm2 stuck to the road in amazing fashion!!

just finished an awesome 2000 mile + plus, round trip to Germany and back, with the Storm 2 Ultras, front and rear, through flooding and 30+ degree temps. That's around 2800 miles on them so far and not even a slight loss of grip. They still look brand new.............. I know which tyres I'll be buying next time round.
