Corbin Stinger rear tab on '04

Anyone that has installed this seat on their '04 had a problem with the rear mounting tab not lining up with the rear bracket on the fender? It's too low near the fender and I need it bent up toward the seat more. There's a half inch gap between the rear of the seat and the fender, and if you want you can lift the seat right off at the back.

According to the Corbin website, " The tongue is made of a mild steel that will bend easily enough with an adjustable wrench clamped on it. Very little bend is needed in most cases, so be careful not to overdo it!" I beg to differ...the steel seems like spring steel, not mild. It won't bend, AND you can't get a friggin "adjustable" wrench on it, without shredding the leather covering.[:0]They didn't figure enough room for the adjustment of the tab to pan[/emoticons/emotion-6.gif!]

Has anyone come up with a fix for this? (without sending the seat back to Corbin 3000 miles away?)

Any hints would be appreciated!

Thanx

I wouldn't make any adjustment at all without the consent & approval of Corbin. The tail bracket is pop riveted to the pan and is liable to work loose.

Try puttting some small washers to raise the hook up a bit i had to put 3 in mine about 1/4 inch then worked great

I thought about that...but, the tongue itself is too close to the fender...the mounting bracket on the fender would have to be shorter in order to have the tongue latch on it. The tongue has to be closer to the bracket...as it is now, there's about 0.125" gap between the top inner edge of the tongue and the bottom edge of the fender bracket.

Thanks anyway for the input...I could take the bracket off the fender and mod it to fit, I suppose...

man 3 more months.... that blows.

Actually, it SUCKS!!![/emoticons/emotion-2.gif] But it does give me time to get all the stuff figured out that I need...chrome switch boxes, perches, levers, seat, clutch, exhaust customizing, bars, braided lines, etc, etc.,(did I leave anything out??)

Have you actually engaged the rear tab and latched the seat to the front lock and is the rear fender bracket damaged at all?
I removed the stock front passenger pillion mounting bracket before installing the Stinger!

Yes, Alan...the pilion hardware has been removed and no, the rear bracket isn't damaged at all. I even removed my tool pouch from it's perch as well. The rear latch/tongue doesn't even contact the fender bracket. As it sits, there is about 0.125" of gap between the tongue and the underside of the fender bracket. If I push down on the seat in this position, I can see the tongue come dangerously close to the painted fender surface. When mounted, the seat wobbles precariously on the fender, sitting about 1/2" above the fender itself....I wouldn't call that safe, would you?

Just by lifting on the back of the seat, the tongue doesn't even touch the bracket, allowing the seat to be removed from the back. The front locks in securely...I actually have to press down HARD on the seat over the front latch as I turn the key to un-latch it.

I've sent a message to Corbin, through their support page, describing the problem as I have here. I should hear back from them tomorrow, or i'll just call them.

SuicideD_45....are all the rubber bumpers installed on the bottom seat pan of the Stinger?

Check my photo for reference and if you want i'll take some dimensions from my seat of the bracket [/emoticons/emotion-5.gif]

I am running the Deuce Sissy bar so my seat sits slightly high in the rear.

Alan...wow, thanks for being so helpful AND thorough!!! Yes, the rubber bumpers are all attached to their respective locations. They are riveted in as a matter of fact.

On your pictures it looks as if a portion of the Seat Base, just below the Corbin Sticker, is broken as you can see the Foam. Is this normal, my Yamaha Stiletto Seat has a solid base ????

Yes, that's exactly the way mine is as well. I thought it looked weird at first...but now I'm thinking it's a way for the foam to "breathe" a bit.

I haven't looked at mine lately (for '02) but that patch that's missing looks like the spot where the middle bracket on the '02/03 would have caught.

What I mean is , it looks like they took the seat pans meant for the earlier years and cut off that portion because it was in the way for the new setup.

If so , that's a shoddy way of doing things !

If needed I can take pics of my setup.

I hope it all works out for you.

If you were shipping it back ...I would suggest they give you a new one. Tell them that their engineering and design which you are paying dearly for has been compromised by the hack job on the pan ! After all if it was designed to have support of a solid pan there and you take that away :

* will it give the support it is designed to at that spot?
* is it going to sag or push through the hole over time ?
* can unwanted moisture get in there and cause problems ?
* even for resale...once they get through the old stock and start doing them right, people might not want these ones.

Again... maybe you'll be ok, but this is the position I would take.

Thanks for the insight, Bruce. I'll keep that info in mind. Excellent points, btw. I wasn't thinking along those lines initially, but I did think that their quality control may have been not up to snuff when they slapped the red "Brackets OK!" sticker on the underside of the pan.
