Cruise Control

After finding I was not looking forward to getting back on the bike on long trips, it was time to do something to ease the aching wrist. After much researching, I bit the bullet & opted for the most expensive option - It also seemed to be very very good.

The biggest problem was unobtrusively fitting the bulky parts to the bike.
Initially it was figured that the only place to mount the actuator was on the frame:

But then I figured that with a lot of time and patience I could fitit under the AIS cover if I hacked away the bottom half of the redundant bracket:

After a day of fr!gging around I finally got it to fit and with the cover back on it's hardly noticable.:

Ther's also a cable interface unit (CIU), into which the the throttle cable must go, the actuator cable also goes into there & via an ingenious spool connection another cable comes out to ontrol the fuel injection. Originally this was going behind the AIS cover but there's no room left with the actuator there so I came up with a mounting for und

Then there was the wiring:

Yes, a mess, but we got there.

Yes that's the computer where the toolkit used to be. Very very well written program in the computer I have to say. The diagnostics got me out of trouble with the install.

And the control module:

It's very sweet looking and user friendly.

Finally the whole package is barely noticeable & I have what I wanted, a fantastic cruise control with more safety features than you can poke a stick at. And I'm enjoying the long trips again.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments guys. I wish I knew how to get the pics in order??? and with the comments in between
This unit was designed for bikes because cars are have different requirements re how much throttle to give etc etc and because there's such a variation in the power of different bikes, adjustability is necessary. This is why the computer is so good, the amount of initial pull to give & the sensitivity of the response is fully adjustable.
The unit has many "switch off" features included to enhance the safety of use on a bike. Basically if you touch anything it releases the actuator. It releases if you touch either brake, touch the clutch, accelerate hard, go a certain speed over the setpoint, go too slow or rev the engine much above the setpoint.
As for the heat? Yes, it's very close to the engine so it's fingers crossed a little but I was assured it was designed to handle the heat.
Love using it, keen to see if it gives me a bit more fuel range.
Can't wait for the trip to the Snowy Mountains in a few weeks /emoticons/emotion-1.gif

I apologize in advance if you take this the wrong way, but any of the throttle locks work
just as well and are a fraction of the cost and far less installation head ache as that product.
I know your in Australia and there may not be many choices in your local shops, but I'm sure
you could order stuff online, right?

I'm all over the inexpensive "Vista". I put 5500 miles on my '02 in July/Aug. when I rode from Santa Cruz, CA to Omaha, NE. I put in so many miles/hours without touching my throttle, I lost track. I met My brother, who rode out from Omaha & met me in Sheridan, WY. We then rode thru the Black Hills, etc, on to Omaha. He was quite jealous of my "apparent" comfort. Admittedly I was comfy all the way. This throttle stop rules, IMHO.

A throttle lock is not the same as a cruise control. For flat open roads, a throttle lock works just fine, but throw in some hills and the cruise control would be so much nicer.

In case you forgot, we ride a Warrior that has balls of torque,
not a semi truck pulling 5 tons of steel.[/emoticons/emotion-2.gif]

There are times when the bigshots are scrapin' & times when you're ambling in traffic and times when you've just got a sh!tload of miles to do [/emoticons/emotion-1.gif]
